2012: The Year of the Geek

Happy New Year my fellow geeks! As 2013 dawns, I want to note that 2012 was quite the geek year for me.

What made it geeky is seeing all three of the major comic movies: The AvengersThe Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises.

I also completed my goal of watching every single episode of Smallville that began in late 2011 when I completed season 1 on New Year’s Eve and finished season 10 on June 15, 2012.

Speaking of Smallville, I am grateful to DC Comics and Bryan Q. Miller for continuing the show in the season 11 comics. I have enjoyed the “Guardian” and “Detective” arcs.

Also in 2012, I attended my first ever comic book convention with the inaugural Fan Expo Vancouver. That experience has made me want to attend Comic Con 2013 in San Diego and the 2nd Fan Expo Vancouver.

Our podcast is still going strong as Nadya, Sigrid and myself continue to have passionate discussions on TV and now some discussions on the latest geek films with our special guest Chelsea.

Some of the movies that I really enjoyed this year were The Avengers, Skyfall and Les Miserables.

TV shows that I was disappointed in 2012 is Glee. It’s third season ended strong but it’s fourth season has been really uneven. I am also disappointed in the final season of The Office in terms of what they are doing with Erin (Ellie Kemper) and Andy (Ed Helms) – Can’t those two kids ever be happy?

TV shows that I really loved this year include Revolution, Continuum, Parks and Recreation, Elementary, Once Upon a Time and of course Arrow.

2013 is going to be filled with a lot of geek related stuff that I am looking forward to and the #1 movie that I can’t wait to see next year is The Man of Steel. This is followed by Star Trek Into Darkness, Iron Man 3 and Catching Fire.

Some TV shows I am looking forward to in 2013 is F/X’s The Americans starring Keri Russell and the third season of Downton Abbey.

I look forward to future arcs of Smallville season 11  comics and can’t wait to see how the third arc “Haunted” concludes.

And if all goes according to plan, 2013 will be filled with more geekiness if I get to go to San Diege Comic on 2013, Emerald City Con in Seattle and of course Fan Expo Vancouver. So if that happens, follow @PopGoestheWorld on twitter for all my coverage of these events.

So 2012 was a blast in terms of pop culture and 2013 is just going to be geekier.
