Supergirl Season 2 “Homecoming” Recap

Another Supergirl episode that uses the same episode title as one from Smallville. And “Homecoming” happens to be one of my favourite episodes of Smallville. The season 10 episode also marked episode 200 of the Superman origin story TV show.
One of the things I loved about it is that it allowed Clark to shed the weight of his past so he can concentrate on the present. I also love it because it is the first time ever that Clark tells Lois that he loves her and vice versa.
In Supergirl’s “Homecoming” instead of going to a high school reunion, the homecoming is the return of Jeremiah Danvers after almost 15 years in Cadmus captivity.
Before we get to Jeremiah’s return, it seems that Kara and Mon-el have progressed much faster than Smallville’s Lois and Clark ever did. It took a full season before the two actually consummated their relationship. Here on Supergirl, it looks like the moment Kara and Mon-el decided to be together would also be their first time together as Mon-el wakes up the next morning hoping to find Kara but sees she was out on Supergirl duty.
Before the two go to the DEO, she gets Mon-el to promise that he won’t. However, 10 seconds after entering the DEO, Mon-el blabs that he and Kara are dating. J’onn and Alex joke, at least I think they were joking, that the two needs to report to HR and fill out the paperwork declaring they are dating and that Mon-el needs to attend a sexual harassment seminar.
All joking aside, the team is alerted to some Cadmus activity. When Supergirl and the Martian Manhunter intercept a Cadmus transport, they find a chained up Jeremiah inside one of the trucks.

Once back at the DEO, Alex is elated to be reunited with her father after a very long time. The whole Danvers family is back together.
While getting checked out, Jeremiah details how we came to be Cadmus’ prisoner. Jeremiah notes that Cadmus is planning on detonating a nuclear fusion bomb that is powered by Kara’s heat vision to destroy National City. Alex tells her dad that his right hand suffered major nerve damage. Eliza arrives and is reunited with her long-lost husband.

Watching on the sidelines is Mon-el, who looks suspicious at Jeremiah’s return and shares his concern with Kara. Kara refuses to listen to Mon-el who wants to put a damper on the happy reunion. Since here is going to be a homecoming party at Kara’s later that evening, she wants Mon-el to come and give Jeremiah the benefit of the doubt. Mon-el agrees for Kara’s sake.
In a warehouse, we see Lilian Luthor and Cyborg Superman putting the finishing touched on a bomb.

At the homecoming, Alex introduces her dad to her girlfriend Maggie who makes a good impression by bring tequila. Eliza and Jeremiah go off and make margaritas and he wants to make up for lost time. Eliza tells Jeremiah that it is not possible to do so and that they’ve both changed over the last 14 years and they should take things one day at a time starting with homecoming.
When J’onn arrives, Jeremiah asks to rejoin the DEO to help fight Cadmus. J’onn readily agrees. Everyone toasts Jeremiah’s safe return but Mon-el can no longer hide his suspicions about Jeremiah to himself and questions whether or not he would get full access to the DEO again. Kara and Alex think Mon-el has gotten of line and is kicked out. When Jeremiah sees him out, he warns Mon-el that he knows the truth about him and that Kara wouldn’t be happy when she finds out.
At the alien bar, Mon-el asks Winn for his help in tracking Jeremiah. On another note, it looks things are going pretty well with Winn and Lyra.
Back at the DEO, J’onn finishes giving Jeremiah a tour of the DEO and gives him his security pass. When alone, Winn sees Jeremiah enter the DEO’s mainframe room and download some classified files. Winn and Mon-el lets Kara know and she starts to believe her boyfriend’s suspicions of her adopted father.
When Kara confronts Jeremiah about the files he accessed, he says that he was looking at Alex’s case files to see what his daughter has been up to all these years to see what he has missed. Winn confirms Jeremiah’s story and Alex is not pleased at Kara for not believing in her father creating a rift between the sisters. Kara defends herself and is now open to the possibility that Cadmus has turned Jeremiah.
On the outs with Kara, Mon-el seeks Winn’s advice on how to get back in her good graces. Winn suggests that Mon-el try and not be her savior as she can take care of herself but ask her what she needs. Winn is then alerted to a sighting of Kara’s heat vision signature.
Kara, Alex and the DEO arrive at the location with Jeremiah and J’onn back at the DEO running the ops. However when Kara, Alex and the DEO go into the warehouse, they find nothing. Meanwhile, J’onn sees Jeremiah sneak away to the mainframe to download some files. J’onn realizes that Mon-el was right about Jeremiah and tries to stop him. However, J’onn sees that Jeremiah’s damaged and isn’t damaged at all but enhanced cybernetically. Jeremiah’s takes down J’onn and Winn and gets away with the downloaded files.
When Alex and Kare return to the DEO, they find out what happened and luckily Winn put a tracker on Jeremiah which they find him in the woods with Lilian and Cyborg Superman.
Kara and Alex try and take everyone in but Cyborg Superman blows up a bridge just as a train is about to cross. Supergirl goes to save the train while Alex chases after her father.
Father and daughter are at a stand still. Alex feels betrayed and Jeremiah says everything he has done is for her protection. Alex wants to bring her dad in but he tells her that she will have to shoot him. Alex can’t bring herself to shoot her dad and lets him go.
Back at the DEO, Kara and Alex lets everyone else know that Jeremiah escaped and Winn is tasked at figuring out what files Jeremiah stole. Eliza arrives and Alex has to give her mom the bad news about her dad.
Later that night, at her apartment, Alex is drinking away her sorrows when Maggie arrives. Alex is unable to tell Maggie what happened but she knows that something bad happened with her father and comforts her girlfriend.
Meanwhile, at Kara’s, Mon-el arrives and offers to be there for her. As Mon-el offers a shoulder to cry one, Kara receives a call to say that Jeremiah stole the list of the National Alien Registry and the two are back to work.
At some undisclosed Cadmus location, it looks like Lilian is constructing some sort of alien spaceship presumably to rid Earth of all aliens and it looks like Jeremiah is on board with this plan.
And somewhere in all of this Teri Hatcher is going to be involved and I really hope that she and Dean Cain share some scenes.
