DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 15 “Destiny” Recap

We open this week’s episode 5 months ago in Central City 2016. We get the moment in the Pilot where Rip is on the rooftop showing the team 150 years in the future. Rip hands Stein his card and we get to see what happened after Rip left. Snart isn’t interested in joining Rip’s crusade. Sara hasn’t made her mind up and Ray seems interested. Stein too and tries to convince Jax of the adventure but he rather remain in the present. When Jax leaves, the other Jax from the future arrives seeking Stein’s help. Stein is confused but takes Jax to STAR Labs where they work on some quantum whatever that will help Jax return to the Vanishing Point and the team. This Stein is being his arrogant, know it all self, wanting to know what is goign to happen to him. Jax refuses to say anything but knows he needs to go back to the future to his Stein or he will die. The two manage to fix the jump ship. Before leaving, Jax thanks Stein for making the best decision he never made and that he will forgive him for drugging him.

Meanwhile at the Vanishing Point, Rory is taken away to undergo induction treatment to brainwash him and turn him back into Chronos. Rory managed to break free the first time by thinking about vengeance. Rip is taken to Time Master Druce while Kendra and Carter (who doesn’t appear in the episode) is taken to Vandal Savage’s time ship.
When Rip meets with Druce, the Time Master wants to know where Snart and Sara are. Rip doesn’t answer but instead wants answers of his own as to why the Time Masters would align themselves with Savage. The answer is in 2175, an alien race from Thanagar invade Earth and because Savage conquered Earth and it was under one rule, he helped defend the planet from the invasion. In fact, Rip and his team have actually been helping Savage in each of their missions to try and stop him. Also, Druce ordered Savage to kill Rip’s family knowing that incident will cause him to go rogue.
Druce then takes Rip to a chamber that contains a portal to the Occulus Wellspring. When Rip enter the light, he sees the past attempts on stopping Savage but also the future where he sees Ray’s death. Druce tells Rip that the future he saw is actually set in stone. In fact, everything Rip and company has done is because the Time Masters scripted it that way.
When Rip returns to his cell, he tells Stein and Ray what he saw. Both can’t believe that their fates and futures are already decided.
Back on the Waverider, Snart and Sara have hidden in a secret compartment ala the Millennium Falcon. Snart just wants to high tail it out of there but Sara doesn’t want to leave the team behind. Snart pulls out his cold gun on Sara and threatens to kill her but Sara knows that Snart won’t as she has seen him changed since becoming a part of a team. Rip’s old time phone rings and Sara answers it. On the other end is Gideon who tells Snart and Sara that the team is alive and has a plan.
While all this is happening, Rory is being brainwashed by Time Master Duncan. And it looks like it has worked as Rory is Chronos once again and he suits up to hunt down Snart and Sara.

Snart and Sara enact Gideon plan that involves placing what looks like bombs on the Time Masters’ time ships. Snart and Sara take the Waverider and escape the Time Masters’ space station. Druce is alerted that Snart and Sara have escaped and orders the Time Masters to take their ships and go after them. However, the device that Sara planted gets activated shutting down their ships while playing a little of Captain and Tenile. Druce then sees no point in keeping Stein, Rip and Ray alive and orders them to be killed. But this order is delayed when a soldier comes in to tell Druce they now when Snart and Sara are and it is in the present as the Time Masters space station comes under attack.
Snart and Sara get to the prison cell and is about to free their team when Chronos arrives. Snart tries to wake up his friend and Duncan orders Chronos to shoot. Chronos obliges and shoots Duncan and later kills him.
Rip, Snart, Rory, Sara and Ray are all reunited back on the Waverider with Gideon. The Waverider is caught in the space station’s tractor beam but Ray uses a bit of Chronos’ suit to disengage it and they get away. Once away, Rip tells the team about the Occulus and the only course of action is to destroy it. Rory is all for blowing things up, Ray is up for it, if it means changing his fate while Snart isn’t so sure of the plan.
In the ship’s kitchen, Ray is stuffing his face with cupcakes and asks Rory how he managed to shake the brain washing. Rory says he thought about the team and doesn’t want Ray blabbing how he cares about the team.
Snart visits Sara in her quarters for a game of cards. Sara isn’t in the mood, worried about their mission to destroy the Occulus. Also, Sara feels that while their lives have been dictated b the Time Masters she still feel guilty about the things she has done. Snart has been doing a lot thinking about the things he hasn’t done especially when it comes to the two of them. Sara tells Snart that if he wants a kiss from her then he will have to steal one.
The team makes it to the Occulus Wellspring (which is actually Vancouver’s Bloedel Conservatory). But there to greet our legends is Druce and his soldiers. Ray feels they’ve fallen into a trap but Druce calls it destiny. Just as the soldiers are about to open fire but Jax arrives in the jump to take them out. Jax and Stein merge to form Firestorm thus ensuring Stein’s survival.

Ray, Rip and Rory go inside to destroy the Occulus while Snart, Firestorm and Sara hold off the reinforcements. As Ray works on initiating the self-destruct, there is a moment that looks exactly like Rip’s vision. Rip tries and get Ray to stop but he doesn’t as knowing he will day saving others is to him a good way to die. However, a little hiccup occurs when the Occulus’ defense system tries and stop the self-destruct. The only way to get it to initiate is if Ray holds down the button. Rory doesn’t want that to happen to knocks him out and keeps the button down. Rip shrinks Ray so he can carry him out. Once outside, Snart wants to know where Rory is and Rip tells him. Snart is not happy with that decision and runs back in. Snart knocks out Rory so he has to hold down the button. Sara knows what Snart is doing, sacrificing himself for the team and the future. Sara gives Snart a kiss and leaves with Rory. You know, I really was shipping Sara and Snart for a while and it was a sweet kiss that Sara gave. Druce and more soldiers arrive to try and stop Snart. Snart proclaims that no one pulls his strings and the Occulus explodes.
Back on the Waverider, Ray and Sara call Snart a hero and we see the latter taking the death a lot harder than the others.
Meanwhile, Savage has brought Kendra back to London 2166, moments before he is going to kill Rip’s family. Kendra begs Savage not to kill Rip’s family but it falls on deaf ears and we see Rip’s family killed. And even though the Occulus was destroyed and the future now in flux, Gideon tells Rip that his family still get killed.
Savage contacts one of the Time Masters, who I will call Lex (as he is played by Mackenzie Gray who played a Lex clone on Smallville). Lex tells Savage they can no longer help as the Occulus is destroyed and they can’t see into the future nor control time. Savage wonders what about the Thangardians but Lex says they don’t know what will happen now and tells Savage he is on his own.
Savage isn’t quite deterred as he decides to take his time ship and do some time travel with Kendra and Carter in tow.
I am a bit sad that Wentworth Miller is no longer a series regular on Legends. His Captain Cold and Sara Lance were two of my favorite characters. I just loved Miller’s line deliveries as it looks like he is having so much fun on the show.
The season finale is next week and from the promos it looks like Kendra and Carter escape Savage somehow in order to return to Central City 2016.
