This episode reminded me a lot of Smallville season 8’s “Committed” where a twisted jeweller was kidnapping engaged couples to test their love but in Arrow’s case it is a heart-broken Carrie Cutter aka Cupid who is kidnapping engaged couples just to kill them.
The last time we saw Cupid, she was fawning all over Deadshot and taken into custody by ARGUS but Waller let her loose. When we see Cupid again, she has kidnapped a Star City celebrity couple and question how much they love each other. When both declare their undying love, Cupid kills them anyways saying love is like a bullet to the head or an arrow in the heart.
A couple on the outs is Olicity. Felicity is moving out and Oliver tells her he has hired movers to make it easier. It is clear that Oliver wants to get back together but can’t say the words but feels optimistic when Felicity still wants to be on Team Arrow.
When Team Arrow goes on patrol it is a quiet night, a first in four years and can be attributed to Darhk being in jail.
But keeping Darhk in the clinker is proving difficult for Laurel when his attorney wants to dismiss the charges due to lack of evidence and also that his client’s name is Kenneth Bender not Darhk. Laurel insists she has evidence and is given time to present it. When Laurel tells Team Arrow about her troubles, Thea suggests that they testify since she, Diggle and Felicity were kidnapped by Darhk at Christmas time. Laurel thinks it is a great idea considering Darkh targeted a mayoral candidate’s fiancee. This is when Team Arrow learn that Olicity is no more. Diggle talks to Oliver and encourages him to tell Felicity that he still wants to be with her.
When Diggle takes the stand, the defense attorney manages to pick apart his testimony.
Lance then offers to testify since he has nothing to lose except perhaps his career but he is willing to take the hit. Laurel meanwhile is reluctant to let her father incriminate himself. But Lurel has no choice as any witness she tried to get has gotten out of testifying. So Lance tells the court everything he did for Darhk and all in the name of saving Laurel. The defense tries to discredit Lance but he says why would he ruin his career by testifying and what he has said is all true.
Meanwhile, Felicity has found Cupid, who has kidnapped another celebrity couple. Team Arrow only knows this thanks to Thea’s penchant for reading gossip magazines.
Team Arrow suits up and chases a stretch limo that Cupid has stolen with the couple. The chase ends in a warehouse but Cupid isn’t in the limo and she attacks the Green Arrow from behind. Cupid tells the Green Arrow that she was once in love with the Arrow and that he isn’t him. And that’s right, according to Star City, Roy was the Arrow and he faked his death. Cupid manages to get away but leaves behind part of her suit that lets Felicity track he to a warehouse that stores wedding dresses long-term.
At the warehouse, Team Arrow finds a shrine of Cupid’s victims and they try and find out who could be next. Thea knows who won’t be next and that is Olicity. However, this gives Oliver an idea and suggest to Felicity that they get “married” to draw out Cupid. Felicity thinks it is a stupid idea and also is mad at Oliver for not cancelling their venue. Also, Felicity sent out a notice to say the wedding is off. Thea says that can be solved but leaking to certain media that they wanted to have a quiet wedding.
So at the wedding ceremony, Felicity looks beautiful in her dress and Oliver handsome. When it comes to the vows, Felicity’s are short but Oliver is heartfelt and all about how their love brought him to the light. Felicity is moved by the vows. Cupid is right on queue and threatens to blow up the hotel. Cupid gives her speech about love being dead and how she loved two men and they are both dead. Felicity then gives a speech about love to say it is life and tells Cupid how her love for Oliver has made her a better person and their love makes them stronger. Cupid seems moved but still is ready to push the detenator. Diggle and Speedy arrive and Cupid is taken down and into custody.
At an emergency court session, the judge has ordered Darhk to be taken into custody until his trial based solely on Lance’s testimony. But there is a price to be paid and Lance is suspended pending a trial in front of the IAB.
At the Arrow cave, despite Oliver’s heartfelt vows and what Felicity said to Cupid, Olicity is still finished. Even though the two still love each other, Felicity can’t trust Oliver even after he promises never to lie to her. But Felicity knows that Oliver can’t keep that promise. Felicity then quits Team Arrow as she can’t be around Oliver and not be with him at the same time.
Rieter leads Oliver and Tiana through the cave and into an open room where an idol sits on a pedestal. Rieter tells about his time growing up in an African nation where soldiers terrorized and killed people in his village. Oliver thinks that Rieter is doing the same with the people on the Island. Rieter shoots one of his prisoners and we see his life force leave his body and enter the idol. Rieter places his forearm in front of the idol and we see a tattoo light up. Oliver takes out Rieter and Tiana grabs the idol and the two make a run for it. Too bad they. get lost and the only way out is back through Rieter who tells the two that he has guns. Tiana tries to destroy the idol but no luck. Reiter’s men find the idol but no Oliver or Tiana. It is a trap as Oliver and Tiana take the two men down and now have guns to confront Rieter.
As Darhk is being taken to his cell we see that he has snuck in his wedding ring. As he puts it on, Darhk has a gleeful smile on his face. Not sure what this means but definitely nothing good.
