Tonight’s episode truly featured a twist that I didn’t see coming but once it is revealed, a lot of things started to make sense.
Let’s dive into the action that led to the WTF moment
Fitz is running portal simulations while Hunter doesn’t understand why he is helping bring back Simmons’s boyfriend as he wouldn’t do it. Fitz tells Hunter he is doing it because he owes Will for keeping Simmons safe. Later, Simmons tells Fitz that she realizes that the situation is all messed up but Fitz says that they will find a way to rescue Will. Simmons is thankful and tells Fitz that Will is a good man. After Simmons leaves, we see Fitz pull up old articles on Will with one focusing on how he was a local hero.
Ward on the Run
Ward is setting up shop in a new HQ and berates Kebo for letting Hunter get too close to him. Ward knows that SHIELD won’t stop coming after him so they need to be prepared. Ward then tasks Kebo to find Werner and take care of him.
Meanwhile, Werner has visited an old family friend, Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe) and asks him to help hide from Ward. Werner is clearly afraid of Ward. Malick agrees to help but we then see him call Ward to offer his help and gives up Werner’s location. More on how that plays out under “The Return of Agent May”
Looking for Lash
Daisy, Mack and Hunter are out tailing Banks, whom Daisy believes is Lash, an Inhuman that can transform into a human. They follow Banks around and Hunter actually ices him and brings him back to their stakeout van. Inside, the team gets a blood sample to find InHuman markers. Unfortunately, it comes up negative but they intercept a text asking him to meet at an EndoTech warehouse.
Meanwhile, Coulson is tasked to get closer to Rosalind so she will show him their base. The duo gets detoured due to a robbery at Rosalind’s house. While there, Coulson pieces together that there really was no robbery but something that Rosalind staged to get Coulson’s sympathy. Eventually, Rosalind does take Coulson to the base, which is the EndoTech warehouse.
Daisy, Mack and Hunter use a new drone to spy on what is going in the warehouse and they see a crate arriving that contains an InHuman in suspended animation. They also see Coulson there and are mortified that he isn’t horrified as they are. But Coulson is horrified and we learn more about Rosalind that she lost her cardiologist husband to cancer.
The Return of Agent May
We learn that Andrew is okay and he tells how he made out alive to Melinda and Coulson. Melinda is all pissed at Hunter and Coulson pulls him off the Ward mission. Melinda volunteers to take Hunter’s place and tells Coulson that she is back!!!!!
Melinda then targets her anger towards Bobbi and the two ladies fight. But this fight was a test to see if Bobbi was mission ready. According to Melinda, Bobbi is but the latter isn’t so sure as tests says she isn’t. Melinda tells Bobbi to screw the tests and to be ready in 20 minutes.
Their mission is to find Werner and they get a nibble that one of his Cayman Island accounts was accessed. Melinda and Bobbi enter the bank as a rich business woman and her translator. The Mandarin conversation they have throughout the scene is hilarious. Melinda and Bobbi make it to the safety deposit boxes and gain access to Werner’s but this also triggers a security protocol. Bobbi initially was handling the situation diplomatically but ends with Melinda kicking some ass.
Melinda sees that Bobbi is afraid of getting physical in the field after what Ward did to her. Melinda is having none of her excuses and tells her that it is her experiences that has made her a great SHIELD agent.
The ladies get a tip that Werner is in Lisbon and they do find him being stabbed by Kebo and HYDRA. Melinda takes on the two HYDRA agents while Bobbi takes care of Kebo. At first Bobbi is holding her own until she falls into the pool where Kebo tries to drown her but Bobbi uses one of her sticks to knok Kebo out and climbs out of the pool. Bobbi then electrifies them to electrocute Kebo.
Back in the hotel room, Melinda has defeated the HYDRA agents and brings Werner down. As Werner lays dying in Melinda’s arms, he wants to know what Andrew was. This is where we learn what really went down in the convenience store. Andrew transformed into Lash and took down the HYDRA agents and the SHIELD agent. It was Andrew that lit the convenience store on fire.
Earlier, we saw Daisy seek Andrew’s advice on Lash and he says that maybe she should ask Lincoln if she knew where he was.
In the coda, Daisy is talking to Lincoln, who assures her that he safe. Andrew asks if Lincoln told Daisy where he was but she said no but will let him know once she knows. Now knowing that Andrew is Lash it makes total sense why he always wants to know where Lincoln is considering Lash went after him in the season premiere. It also makes sense after learning that it was Andrew that left Melinda during their vacation. So how long has Andrew been an InHuman?
