Supergirl Season 3 “Make it Reign” Recap

It is the penultimate episode of Supergirl’s third season and we learn of Selena’s plan for the Worldkiller’s and Earth. But first Selena has arrive in National City with two other Dark Kryptonians. The three start to perform a ceremony to resurrect Reign but when one of the Dark Kryptonians tried to touch the black rock, it burns in her hands. Alas, the rock is toxic to them but not to Colville who is more than willing to serve the three women.
Back on Argo, Alura, Kara, Mon-el and Thara head to Selena’s home looking for clues and find an instruction manual on how to make a Worldkiller. They also find a holo crystal where they speak to Selena who details how she had to hide her real self for 20 years and blames Alura for all that ails them. Selena reveals that they plan on using Reign to terraform the Earth to create a new Krypton. Soon after, Selena sets off a bomb injuring Thara.
Kara knows she must warn her friends back on Earth but Alura tells her daughter that the dome prevents any communications off the planet and there is no ships on Argo. However, Alura mentions there is a portal that Kara’s father was working on to escape off of Krypton but it isn’t working. Soon enough Kara et al head to her father’s lab to fix the portal. They also find a way to warn the DEO about the Dark Kryptonians by using a holo crystal that allows Kara to use her mom’s AI to communicate with Winn and Alex what is about to happen. It is here seeing Erica Durance channel Melissa Benoist’s Kara that gave me some serious Lois Lane vibes from just the way she was delivering her dialogue.
While Winn and Mon-el work on the portal, which will be a one-way trip, the three Dark Kryptonians realize they need to blood of Purity and Pestilience to fully resurrect Reign and they head straight to the DEO. Also at the DEO is Sam who has sought Alex and Lena’s help in curing her of Reign. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work as the Reign cells in Sam is overpowering Sam’s cells. Lena vows to find something to help.

At the DEO, the Dark Kryptonians have arrived and Winn uses his personal shield belt to help take the blows of one of the Kryptonians. Alex orders fellow DEO agent Demos’ to grab the blood and destroy it as the Selena gives chase. Another Dark Kryptonian senses Sam but Ruby’s quick thinking shields them from her prying eyes by using a shield that can harm Kryptonians.

With Winn down for the count, the portal cannot be activated so Kara decides to use her mom’s AI to lure Vita to turn on the portal. Mon-el emerges back at the DEO followed by Kara and then Alura who decides to join her daughter. Kryptonsite noted that Erica Durance wearing a super suit is more than what Tom Welling wore in 10 seasons of Smallville.
It then becomes a showdown between Kara, Alura and Mon-el versus the Dark Kryptonians. Demos tosses the Worldkiller’s blood to Kara but the Dark Kryptonians use their heat vision to kill Demos despite him using his shield belt. We later see Winn blame himself over his death and his purpose at the DEO.
Kara then tosses the blood to Selena but uses her heat vision to destroy the blood.
With this small victory, Kara introduces her mom to Alex. And Alura tells the group how there is a fountain out there that can perhaps strengthen Sam and weaken Reign but this involves Sam going to the Dark Valley. Sam wants to do this despite everyone’s concern.
But they have to hurry up because Selena uses her blood that had some of the Worldkiller’s blood to fully resurrect Reign who uses a Kryptonian sword to enter the fountain and into the Earth’s core to start the terraforming. This event stops the Reach ceremony that M’yrnn was performing with J’onn so they can join the fight to stop Reign and the Dark Kryptonians.
Let’s take a moment for a moment of silence for Colville, whom the Dark Kryptonians killed after outliving his usefulness.
And next week is the season finale. I do fear that Alura is going to die in the season finale. It seems to be another lesson or loss that Kara needs to suffer. I really don’t want that to happen as I love Erica Durance and just want the opportunity to have her come back if need be. Durance has been really great these past three episodes. Also, I hope that Kara and Mon-el get back together and he stays on the show for season 4. It seems this episode might be setting that up.
