Supergirl Season 2 “Resist” Recap

Oh! Cat Grant how have I missed you. I didn’t think I did until Cat Grant opened her mouth to give Rhea a major smack down.
The episode opens however with Lena waking up on the Daxamite ship and is majorly pissed at Rhea for betraying her. Rhea doesn’t apologize but maintains her belief in Lena and brings her over to the window to see the Dazamite ships hovering over National City.
We see Daxamite soldiers going after the citizens of National City while Rhea’s “We Come in Peace” video plays over that outlines her plans for Earth as New Daxam and that she is their new Queen. Fighting back is Maggie going all Terminator on the Daxamites. Vancouver filming side note: I saw them film this scene on a very rainy day in Vancouver.
The Daxamite soldiers have invaded the DEO. Alex evacuates everyone and then leaps off the building into the safe arms of Kara.

Alex, Winn and Kara make their way to the Alien Bar to set-up a temporary DEO. Maggie also seeks refuge there and James comes to say that chaos remains on the streets of National City. An unwelcome visitor is Lilian Luthor who offers her help in getting on board the Daxamite ship to get Lena and Mon-el. Unfortunately for Lilian, no one is interested in her help considering she is Cadmus and has been a thorn in the DEO and Supergirl’s side.
Lilian goes to Supergirl, who knows she is also Kara, and tells her that she still wants to help if ever she should change her mind.

Meanwhile, on board the Daxamite ship, Rhea tells Mon-el her plan and that is unite their people with the people of Earth through a wedding. Mon-el betrothal is Lena. Both have no interest in getting married to each other and producing an heir. Mon-el tells Lena that Rhea can create an heir just through their DNA. Rhea still wants them to get married to legitimize everything with their people.

Later, Rhea gets a message from President Marsdin trying to get her to stand down. There tete-a-tete is intercepted by Winn and the DEO. The group is watching the meeting going on and intervening is Cat Grant who pretty much smacks down Rhea and puts in her place. I love hearing Teri Hatcher say Cat Grant because that character was a thorn in her side on Lois and Clark. The Daxamites end up shooting down Air Force One. Cat is sucked out of the plane but Supergirl rescues her. When they land, the two worry about the President only to discover Marsdin survived because she changed into her alien form.
Supergirl brings Marsdin and Cat back to the alien bar. We learn that Cat and Marsdin went to university together. Marsdin then details how she came to Earth and makes Alex acting director of the DEO since J’onn is in a coma after what Rhea did to him in the last episode. Marsdin then orders Alex to infiltrate the DEO and gain control of a positron gun to destroy the Daxamite ships. Kara doesn’t think it is a good as Lena and Mon-el are still on board but Alex feels that they have to in order to save National City.
Kara is frustrated but gets some sage advice from Cat about it not being selfish to want to save the people that she loves (Mon-el and Lena). Supergirl notes how much she missed Cat’s advice (and we the audience too).
Kara then goes to Lilian Luthor for help. So Lilian and Cyborg Superman go to the alien bar to detail their plan to rescue Lena and Mon-el. Cyborg Superman mentions using the Phantom Zone portal to zap them up the Daxamite ship. Meanwhile, Alex will go to the DEO to use the positron gun and Winn and Cat devise a way to deal with Rhea.

Back on the ship, Rhea begins the wedding ceremony while Kara, Lilian and Cyborg Superman beam up on the ship from the Fortress of Solitude. Cyborg Superman goes all R2D2 to interface with the Daxam computer to find out where Lena is at.
The wedding ceremony is interrupted by Cat’s message. Cat is at her CatCo office (after throwing shade over James’ decorating choices). Cat’s message to the people of National City is to resist the Daxamites and fight back. Cat then calls out Rhea calling her tiara. Rhea orders her soldiers to find Cat and kill her.
The soldiers arrive and Winn and Cat run for their lives. Guardian arrives and takes the Daxam soldiers out using some lead dust to weaken them. Guardian makes sure Winn and Cat are okay and she assures James that she is fine. James tries to deny that Cat was right but she tells him that she knew Guardian was James because she can see his eyes through the slit in his mask. This is where I realized how much I miss Cat.

With the wedding no longer happening, Lena and Mon-el are being escorted back to their rooms. Mon-el takes out his guard and he and Lena make their escape. Lena opens up the door that Cyborg Superman was just at but only encounter more Daxamite soldiers. Luckily, Supergirl knocks them out. Kara and Mon-el are clearly happy to see each other but have to maintain their covers saying that Kara asked Supergirl to rescue him. Lena is shocked that her mom has come to rescue her but not shocked that she decided to save their assess and not Supergirl and Mon-el.
Back on the ship, Kara tells Mon-el that she knew Lilian would betray her and has a way for him to get back. Kara says she is staying on the ship to reason with Rhea and kisses Mon-el goodbye before sending him back to the Fortress of Solitude.
Elsewhere, Alex and Maggie have infiltrated the DEO and gained control of the positron gun. Alex has pressure from Marsdin ordering her to use it on the Daxamite ship and is about to when Lilian tells her that everyone is clear. When Mon-el tells Alex that Kara is still on board she hesitates to the moment where it is destroyed by someone who clearly has heat vision.
On the ship, Rhea taunts Kara to say that she hasn’t won and her secret weapon? An under her control Superman who kicks Supergirl down.
