DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 “Land of the Lost” Recap

There seems to be a bit of a revisionist history happening between the end of the last episode and the beginning of this episode. At the end of the last episode it seemed like Gideon was willingly taking orders from an imprisoned evil Rip. However, in “Land of the Lost”, Gideon tells Rip that she was ordered not to speak to him. It was only after Rip executed an over-ride command that Gideon freed Rip from his cell.
Rip grabs a weapon from his weapons locker, sets a self-destruct mode and takes the medallion. Jax works frantically to re-boot Gideon while Mick and Nate work on bringing in Rip. Rip destroys the medallion meaning that Rip is the only person who knows where Commander Steel is (and the last piece of the spear). Mick knocks Rip out before more damage can be done to the Waverider. Jax does manage to re-boot Gideon just in time but the Waverider crash lands in the Cretaceous Period (the exact year that Ray was stranded in the season premiere). The ship has lost its delineator so Ray, Nate and Amaya trek out to find it.

During their trek, the trio have an almost run-in with Gertrude the T-Rx who has issues with Ray after he stole one of his eggs to make 70 omelettes. Also, the trio find Ray’s old campsite that he protected with T-Rex urine and made figurines of the Legends to ease his loneliness. Ray was also sensing Nate and Amaya trying to rekindle their relationship and interrupts them everytime they try to kiss. While Amaya is off finding fire wood, Ray warns Nate about getting into a relationship with Amaya as this could jeopardize the existence of Mari, her granddaughter and future Vixen. Ray tells Nate that Amaya needs to go back to 1942 so she can return to her village and give birth to a daughter who will give birth to Mari. Nate agrees with Ray but after seeing Amaya calm down Gertrude after retrieving the delienator, he decides to hold off for a day.

While Ray, Nate and Amaya are dealing with dinosaurs, back on the Waverider, Mick suggests entering Rip’s mind to get back the good Rip and the location of Commander Steel. Martin and Mick will monitor as Jax and Sara enter Rip’s mind. The two are warned to stay no longer than one hour or else they will remain trapped in Rip’s mind forever.
Once in, Jax and Sara encounter things that Rip fears like Vandal Savage’s men and also an evil Sara in her White Canary garb. Sara fights herself and it is pretty even but Jax takes Sara out with one of the Waverider’s laser guns.
The two split up but Sara ends up in a cell with Rip after being knocked out by evil Mick and Ray in his Atom suit. In the cell, Rip cowers in fear of Sara and pushes her away with his mind. Sara convinces Rip that she means no harm and is his friend. Rip tries to open the cell but cannot.
Luckily for them Jax comes along and brings a long Gideon in human woman form. Jax encountered Gideon after hearing her SOS call. Gideon tells Jax about Rip’s mind and they go off and find Rip and free him and Sara. I have to say that I really loved seeing Gideon in the flesh and played by her voice actor Amy Pemberton and loved how Sara got flirty with Gideon too!
As all of them try and leave Rip’s mind they encounter Bizarro versions of Sara and Firestorm. Jax takes care of Bizarro Firestorm and Sara once again fights herself. Just as they are about to leave again, Bizarro Firestorm, Sara, Mick and Ray try and stop them. Jax goes back to reality while Sara and Rip remain to take care of the Bizarro versions of the Legends. Once Jax is back, he brings Sara back which leaves Rip, who is now back to his old self, to push away all the Bizarro versions of the team. Just before Rip goes back, he and Gideon share a kiss.
Rip is back and everyone greets him back and formerly meets the newbies. Also of note is that Gideon remembers the kiss she shared with Rip and tells him she liked it and he feels the same way.
The episode ends with Eobard Thawne in 1970 giving a medical to Jack Swigert the replacement for Ken Mattingly on Apollo 13. And from next week’s episode the team is headed to that time period to recover the Spear of Destiny.
