Arrow Season 5 “Who are You?” Recap

We pick up immediately after the last episode and that is Laurel back in the Arrow Cave. Oliver is wondering how Laurel is still alive after watching her die.
Laurel tells Oliver that she is back from the dead because of Sara using the Waverider to save her and they figured out a way that it didn’t create a time aberration. Oliver is happy to see her and Felicity too.
However, we notice small things wrong with her like this Laurel is wearing too many rings on her fingers and has more ear piercings than our Laurel. Also, the way Laurel was speaking to everyone it was not like Earth-1 Laurel.
Diggle decides to remain in prison and show why his CO made a mistake to miss with him. Oliver recruits Chase to help free Diggle and he agrees to take the case. Chase also tells Oliver that they are covering up Malone’s murder by the Green Arrow as to not create mistrust with the city. Chase visits Diggle but General Walker comes and takes him to a military court. However, Diggle knows Walker is going to kill him. Chase manages to get Diggle 24 hours before he gets transferred. When it looks like the two are out of options, Diggle punches Chase. Of course this is all planned as assaulting DA results in Diggle staying in Star City for a while. Walker vows to come back with a signature from the president so he can get Diggle transferred. Chase is looking forward from receiving her autograph.
Felicity throws a welcome back party but it is really ruse to collect Laurel’s DNA. The DNA matches we see that this is Earth-2 Laurel aka Black Siren who uses her meta-human powers to take down Team Arrow.
It looks like Prometheus visited Earth-2 to free Black Siren to pretend to be Laurel. When the two meet, Prometheus not happy with Black Siren. Black Siren calls Oliver to apologize and says he had to do what Prometheus said or he would kill her. The two meet at the Black Canary Statue. Oliver is in his Green Arrow garb and the recruits are on hand. The meeting doesn’t go well as Black Siren uses her powers to take down the recruits and also the Black Canary statue. This forces Oliver to throw a tranquilizer dart to take down Black Siren.
Oliver not happy that Felicity gave orders to move on Black Siren. Oliver wants to hear what Black Siren has to say but Felicity doesn’t trust her. Oliver visits Black Siren in her cage and we learn that she moved to Central City from Starling City after Oliver died. It looks like Laurel loved Oliver on Earth-2 too. After being hit with the particle accelerator, Laurel let the darkness in and becamse the Black Siren. Oliver believes that Laurel can be redeemed and tels Felicity so. However, Felicity pays Black Siren a visit and tells her that Oliver believes Black Siren can be redeemed and it also his shot at redemption too. The power then goes out and Black Siren uses her Canary Cry to make her escape.
It turns out Felicity let Black Siren go but has put a tracking device on her through the water she drunk. Felicity and Oliver both want justice for what happened to Malone and feel that bringing in Black Siren and giving her redemption is part of it.
Curtis is at a crossroads, fills worthless to the team and his personal life imploded because of his attempts to be Mr. Terrific. Rene gives Curtis a boost of confidence by telling him to focus on what we can do instead of not, which is being the Cisco of Team Arrow. Curtis has figured out a way to make the dampening device mobile to block Black Siren’s power.
Thanks to Felicity’s tracker, the find the Black Siren but is unsure if Prometheus is there too but Team Arrow suits up anyways.

Just as Black Siren is about to deal the deadly Canary Cry, Curtis gets the portal dampener to work neutralizing her powers. Felicity then knocks her out with one swift punch.
Back at the Arrow Cave, Felicity and Oliver take the setback with stride and will work extra hard and taking down Prometheus. We learn that Black Siren was sent to ARGUS as Oliver believes he can find the good in her.
Russian Flashback
A Bratva Commander not happy with Oliver in wanting to take down Kovar but hee is with Kovar and has betrayed his Bratva brothers. Oliver gets beaten for his trouble. The basic crux really is that this guy wants Oliver to promise to obey him or die. Some ruckus is heard outside and the Bratva men are taken out by a woman (Lexa Doig) wielding a bow and arrow. This woman introduces herself as Talia and has been looking for Oliver.
Back to the present day, Felicity is dismayed that the Black Canary statue won’t be fixed. Oliver notes that he hasn’t kept his promise to Laurel and that is to train a new Black Canary. Oliver says that woman is somewhere out there and for a brief moment I felt that he was going to turn to Felicity and says that it is her. Alas, we meet the potential new Black Canary in Hub City where we see her use a Canary Cry to take out some unruly bar patrons. While her name isn’t given in the episode, we know her name is Tina Boland (Juliana Harkavy). It looks like Tina is an original character and not someone from DC Comics that took up the Black Canary mantle at one point.
It will be interesting to see how Tina got her powers. Looking forward to seeing this development.
