The Flash Season 3 “Killer Frost” Recap

How fun must it be for Danielle Panabaker to play Killer Frost. It was so delicious to see Killer Frost get unleashed in this episode.
And Killer Frost gets unleashed to help save Barry from Savitar. If you recall, the God of Speed made his first appearance and only Barry can see him. Savitar takes the Flash on a speed tour beating him up along the way. When the speedsters finally stop at the waterfront (where you can see Vancouver’s Canada Place in the background), HR suggests that Cisco and Caitlin use their powers to help Barry. Caitlin is reluctant but eventually uses her frozen powers to reveal Savitar and causes him to flee the scene.
Back at STAR Labs, Barry is okay and tells the team about Savitar. Meanwhile, Wally is still in the cocoon in a coma-like state. Barry blames himself while Joe feels helpless and goes to question one of Alchemy’s acolytes to see how he can help Wally. The acolytes can’t help Joe and when he roughs the guy up, he is interrupted by Caitlin to say Wally has emerged from the cocoon a okay.
However, Caitlin lied and actually wanted to questing the acolyte has she is seeking Alchemy for herself. Caitlin’s interrogation is cut short when some detectives investigate what is happening in the interrogation room. Caitlin uses her icy powers to make her escape but Julian sees her leave forcing her to kidnap him.
Barry is alerted that Julian was taken by a meta and Detective Patterson (Greg Grunberg) shows him CCTV footage of Caitlin going all Killer Frost. Team Flash find Caitlin at a frozen food plant and we hear Caitlin blame Barry for creating Killer Frost and also reveals that Flashpoint caused Dante’s death as he was alive in the previous timeline.

When the Flash arrives to try and bring Caitlin in, he has to knock out Julian in order to talk her down. But Caitlin creates an icicle to incapacitate Barry when the police arrive (Julian alerted them to his location) and she escapes. We learn that Caitlin needed Julian to help located acolytes of Alchemy so she can find him to get him to take away her powers. Julian finds two addresses so Cisco takes one address while HR and Joe take the other. Barry is still recovering and he and Iris watch over Wally’s cocoon. Also, Caitlin’s revelation has created a rift between Cisco and Barry.
Caitlin does show up at one of the acolytes and he says that Alchemy can take away her powers but that he is also an acolyte to Savitar. The acolyte then reveals that Savitar showed him the future and Killer Frost was in it and says there are big things ahead for her.
Cisco arrives and we get the Killer Frost versus Vibe show down. The Flash eventually joins but Killer Frost gives a frosty kiss that takes him down. Vibe manages to knock out Killer Frost and tells the Flash to vibrate to warm his body.

Team Flash has placed KIller Frost in the pipeline and we see that Caitlin is now gone. Killer Frost taunts Barry and also blames him for everything that has befell them and throws that he got his happy ending since he go Iris in the end.
Barry needs time alone and Iris tells him to stop blaming himself and that he needs to step up an be the leader. It seems that Barry is very much like Smallville’s Clark Kent in terms of always having the weight of the world on him and constantly blames himself for everything that goes wrong with his friends. Luckily that both Clark and Barry having amazing women in their lives who believe in them and give them hope. Of course I am talking about Lois Lane and Iris West respectively.
Meanwhile, Joe can’t stand Wally being stuck in the cocoon so he cuts him out. However, we see that it was a mistake because when Wally emerges, is whole body is vibrating and takes off.

The team knows they need Caitlin to help Wally. So Barry returns to the pipeline and releases Caitlin. Barry tells Caitlin that she has to kill him in order for her to go free. Barry wants Caitlin to live up to the Killer Frost name. Caitlin makes an icicle and puts it against Barry’s chest. But Caitlin cannot bring herself to do it as Barry correctly surmised that Caitlin was still inside Killer Frost.
With Caitlin back, she makes a serum to help equalize Wally’s body. Joe and Barry figure out that Wally went to his childhood home in Keystone City and administer the serum.
With Wally back to normal, he tests his speed and is quite excited to join Barry in helping to save Central City but Iris wants him to take baby steps before he goes out in the field.
Barry goes to visit Julian in the hospital before Detective Patterson has a chance to interview him about the meta that kidnapped him. Barry manages to convince Julian not to reveal Caitlin kidnapped him in exchange for his immediate resignation as a CSI for the CCPD. Barry accepts this because Iris, Joe, Cisco and Caitlin are his family and would do anything for them.
Of course the big reveal at the end of the episode is that Julian is Dr. Alchemy as Savitar pays him a visit outside of the hospital. Savitar needs Julian to become Alchemy once again for a special mission. And I knew it was Julian as Dr. Alchemy!
It is unlikely we are going to pick this up again next week considering it is the cross-over and also I think the rift between Cisco and Barry must get resolve fairly soon considering Cisco’s reaction to meeting Supergirl.
