Last week, I didn’t recap Legends‘ “Magnificent Eight” as I was a day out after having a tonsilectomy but I did thoroughly enjoy the episode as just like Ray, I am a fan of the Old West.

At the Time Master Council, we see the Omega Protocol in action as the Pilgrim (Faye Kingslee) targets a time pirate’s younger self and we see him erased from existence. Time Master Druce then gives the Pilgrim her next assignment, our Legends.

The team is in Central City 1990, where there is a fire at Rory’s house. The Legends are the firefighters and find Rory’s parents dead but no Rory. We see young Rory watching his house burn from a far. As the Pilgrim is ready to kill young Rory, the Atom shoots the Pilgrim before she can kill young Rory. Young Rory is brought on board the Waverider and is told the team are secret ARGUS agents. Rip tells the team that the Pilgrim only has one chance to kill their younger selves so Rory is safe.

We next go to Starling City 2007. Sara is at the precinct to learn about policing from her father, Quentin Lance. The Pilgrim arrives and the SCPD tries to take her out but nothing happens. Sara rescues her younger self and when young Sara sees someone that looks like her, she wonders if it is her but Rory just calls her a bad ass. Sara then places the younger version of herself with young Rory, who later gets handsy that Sara has to break up their fight. Younger Sara wants to know why they look alike and Sara says they are family. Younger Sara wants to go home as her father would be devastated if he ever lost her. Sara assures her younger self that won’t happen.

A problem arises when Gideon cannot locate the Pilgrim anywhere. The team figure that the Pilgram can target the rest of them at anytime. Rip says that Kendra is safe because of her reincarnation and Rip is safe because he is a Time Master. Snart wants Rip to tell the team about his past but he refuses.

Ray is distraught over the Pilgrim and how she could hurt his past self. Just as Ray is about to propose to Kendra he doubles over in pain. We see the Pilgrim in Star City 2014 beating up a younger version of him at Palmer Tech. Each beat down this Ray takes, our Ray is feeling it in the present. Rip and Firestorm go there and see the Pilgrim beating the crap out of Ray. Eventually, Rip uses a part of the Atom suit to push the Pilgrim out a window.

Rip then decides the best course of action is to kidnap the newborn versions of Snart, Stein and Jax to keep everyone safe. The only catch is people will forget about them.

We are in 1972 Central City, Kendra and Sara find baby Snart cute and successfully kidnap him. Young Rory and Sara find a way to get out of the Waverider but Rory, Sara and Kendra come back and leave young Rory and Sara to babysit baby Snart.

In 1950 Ivy Town, Rip and Rory take baby Stein. 1993 Central City, Ray and Stein go to kidnap baby Jax but Stein sees Jax’s dad has not shipped out yet and gives Jax a moment with his dad as he died overseas in Somalia. Later, Jax confides in Stein how he wished he said more to his dad and maybe warn him about what happens to him in Somalia. The Pilgirm tries to take baby Jax but the team has beaten her to the punch.

Rip takes the team to his adopted mom, Mary Xavier’s (Celia Imrie) and we learn his birth name was Michael.

Rip’s adopted mom is a Time Master too and is head of the Refuge where they bring in orphaned children to groom them to be Time Masters. Mary gives Rip some encouragement about his mission before they are on their way. Beforehand, Rory tells his younger self he knows he deliberately set the fire that killed his family and threatens him not to do the same again at Mary’s. Young Rory says Rory sounds like his dad, which seems to upset him.

A message from the Pilgrim comes through threatening everyone’s loved ones like Snart’s sister, Stein’s wife, Ray’s fiancee Anna and Lance. We see the Pilgrim has Jax’s father and in exchange wants their younger selves.

Rip contacts the Pilgrim and says he will exchange himself for his team’s loved one. The Pilgrim says no as her orders were to target the younger versions of his team. Rip didn’t mean him now but his past self. Kill him and he doesn’t form the team. The Pilgrim agrees.

At an abandoned Time Master outpost, Mary brings young Rip. The Pilgrim comes and agrees to exchange Jax’s dad for young Rip. As the exchange goes down, the Atom gives the signal and sizes up to shoot at the Pilgrim but she stops time that freezes Ray’s shot. We see Firestorm, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, White Canary, Rip and Hawkgirl all attempt to stop the Pilgrim who pauses time in all of them and it was a pretty cool sequence to see all of Legends frozen in time like that. Young Rip stabs the Pilgrim that causes her to unpause time and everyone’s combined firepower at her turns her to ashes.

Back at Mary’s, she assures Rip that she will continue to protect his team as the Omega Protocol is still in affect. Rory reveals to his younger self that he is him and tries to talk some sense into him so he won’t grow up to be like him.

Throughout the episode, we see that Kendra is ensure about her relationship with Ray since Old West version of herself says any lover or relationship she has is doomed to fail because they aren’t Carter. As Ray’s younger self was taking a beating by the Pilgrim, Kendra thought he was going to die and told Ray she wants to spend whatever time she has remaining with him. When Ray ends being okay, the two are now engaged. Kendra doesn’t seem to thrilled as she still worries what her Old West self said. Kendra tells Ray this and he says that maybe she doesn’t have to listen to a past self. After the events of the Pilgrim are over, Kendra decides life is too short and officially becomes engaged to Ray.

On the Waverider, Stein’s wife Clarissa doesn’t seem to remember him while Lance is wrapping his head on being aboard a spaceship. Sara gives him some amnesia pills to wipe out his short term memory. Before his memory gets wiped, Lance always knew Sara would be help people and is proud of her. Jax’s father is wrapping his head too and seeing his grown son and him being Firestorm. The two share a heart to heart and Jax does warn him about what happens to him. Jax tells Rip what he has done in case it ruins the time line but Rip says maybe time wants him and his father to be together.

Since Stein’s wife can’t remember him, the removal of their younger selves is starting to affect history. Rip assures his team he will do all he can so their younger selves can go back and restore the timeline. The only way to do that is to stop Savage and Rip sends the team to 2166 the only time he knows where Savage is at.
