Oliver uses his particular set of skills to rescue his son, William, after Darhk kidnaps him with an assist from Team Arrow and Mari McCabe aka Vixen (Magalyn E.K.).
Leading up to that is first Oliver needs to find out that William has been taken. This happens after Oliver and Felicity come from a physiotherapy session with Paul, Curtis’ husband. The session didn’t yield the result that Olicity wanted as Felicity is still unable to walk despite the implant now in her back.
At the parking garage, Darhk confronts Oliver and tells him to hold a press conference on Friday at 6pm to drop out of the mayoral race and he will return William. After Darhk leaves, Oliver tells Felicity that William his is son.
Back at the Arrow Cave, Oliver gives his reasons why he didn’t tell Felicity about William. The rest of the team arrives and Oliver tells them that his son has been kidnapped. Everyone, except Thea is surprised at the news. Laurel is especially surprised when she learns William’s mother is Samantha Clayton and figures that she become pregnant while Oliver was dating her.
Oliver tasks Thea to call Alex and arrange the press conference. Alex isn’t happy to hear what Oliver has planned but their discussion is cut short as Samantha has come from Central City to see Oliver.
Samantha tells Oliver that a CCPD CSI who looked over the crime scene suggested she talk to Oliver about William’s disappearance. Oliver asks if it was Barry and Samantha said it was. Oliver promises that he will find William but Samantha doesn’t understand how he can and wishes that she never let him in her son’s life. Oliver then confesses that he is the Green Arrow and takes Samantha to the Arrow Cave.

Laurel welcomes Samantha with open arms and forgives her and says it is Oliver that should be the one to ask forgiveness. The team then disperses. Laurel to her father to get the SCPD to help find William, Thea to talk to Malcolm, Felicity to stay with Samantha to get a description of William out there and Oliver is off to seek the help of Mari McCabe aka Vixen as they figured the only way to fight magic is with magic since Constantine is literally in Hell right now and is unavailable.
Vixen’s power comes from a necklace that lets her tap into the power of any spirit animal.
To help track William, Samantha gives Vixen his Flash action figure and from that knows where Darhk is keeping him. However, when Team Arrow and Vixen arrive at Darhk’s apartment, William isn’t there and he uses his powers to subdue the team and makes his escape.
Back at the Arrow Cave, Vixen deduces that Darhk’s power is tied to something like how her power is tied to her necklace. Lance recalls Darhk hidding some sort of sculpture and offers to give them a drawing of it. With the drawing, Vixen explains that the sculpture is like WiFi and it requires the Internet for it to work. So the team is trying to find Darhk via where he is powering his sculpture.
With the failed rescue attempt on William, Darhk ups the timeline for Oliver to drop out of the race to tonight. Oliver calls a press conference to drop out and endorse Ruve Adams.
The team figures out where Darhk could be and Vixen goes in first and uses cheetah powers to grab the sculpture. When Team Arrow confront Darhk, he uses his Sith like powers to Force choke the Green Arrow, Speedy and the Black Canary. Vixen deduces that the sculpture needs to be destroyed to remove Darhk’s magic. Channeling an ape, Vixen manages to destroy the sculpture thus removing Darhk’s powers. William sees that the Green Arrow has rescued him and once he is returned safely to his mom, he asks for a Green Arrow action figure.
Fathers
When Laurel pays Lance a visit, she admits to her father that it stings a bit that Oliver cheated on her with Samantha even though it happened years ago.
Meanwhile, Thea asks point blank if Malcolm told Darhk about William, a question he refuses to answer. Also, Thea isn’t too pleased that her father chose the League over her and doesn’t want to hear that it was for the greater good. Later on, Malcolm does admit to being the one to tell Darhk and it was to protect them. Thea doesn’t want to hear it and regrets acknowledging Malcolm as her father. Malcolm tells Thea she is ungrateful and if it wasn’t for him, she wouldn’t be the warrior that she is now. Malcolm would rather have Thea hate him and be alive than love him and be dead.
Island Flashback
The hole that the prisoners have dug up is open and ready. Reiter notes an energy coming from it and all of a sudden a very dead Conklin appears speaking a different language and sports glossy white eyes. “Conklin” is all menancing and Reiter and his men leave Oliver, Tiana and the rest of the prisoners to him. However, “Conklin” leaves them alone upon seeing the tattoo on Oliver’s abdomen light up. Reiter returns, confident that Oliver is still alive and gets him to go through the whole that looks pretty vast.
A Father’s Message
Throughout the episode, Oliver receives some parenting advice. Diggle tells Oliver that he needs to be there for his son and have him in his life like he is there for his daughter Sara. Vixen on the other hand tells Oliver to stay away from William and allow him to have his childhood. Vixen speaks from experience as she didn’t know her parents and grew up in foster care. Despite growing up that way, she felt she was better off not knowing her parents.
Back at his loft, Oliver leaves a message to his son explaining that he is his biological father. Oliver explains that he hasn’t earned the right to be his father, the one to be there for him and give him advice. Oliver admits that he is the Green Arrow and that his life his dangerous and doesn’t want him involved in it. Oliver tells his son that is why he asked his mom to move away from Central City and not tell him where they are going. Oliver also told Samantha to show the video once William turns 18. After completing, the message, Felicity wheels in after hearing most of it.
It is time for the talk, Felicity tells Oliver she has had time to think and process everything. Samantha explained her ultimatum to Felicity and she understands why Oliver didn’t tell her but she is miffed that he decided to cut ties from his son without consulting her. Felicity doesn’t know what kind of marriage they will have if Oliver can’t lean on his partner when times are tough. So Felicity removes her engagement ring and then discovers that she can walk again and literally walks out on Oliver.
And we won’t know what happens next until March 23!
