The Flash Season 2 “Welcome to Earth-2” Recap

Wow. Just wow. Can I say that this so far has been the best ever episode of The Flash? I think I will. “Welcome to Earth-2” promised to be a trippy episode and it surely was.
The episode opens with Harry doing an entry in his journal that really is a message to his daughter Jesse promising to come for her and fight Zoom but this time he is bring along friends.
We then see the Flash closing up all of the breaches except for the one underneath STAR Labs. Before Barry travels to Earth-2, he has a family dinner with Joe and Iris. Joe tries to convince Barry not to go but he needs to. Also, Barry hasn’t told his father his plan either.
As Harry, Barry and Cisco go through the breach. Jay advises them that Earth-2 is going to be different than Earth-1 and try and not be surprised or emotionally attached to what they encounter. Barry gets Caitlin to close the breach in 48 hours if they don’t come back as that indicates that Zoom ahs them
The breach opens that the three go through and one of the things we see as the travel to Earth-2 is Supergirl flying indicating that she is in another Earth. There was more but I couldn’t ID them all but Flash TV News did.
As soon as the trio go through the breach, the structure that stabilized the breach collapses. Apparently, when Team Flash closed the breaches, the energy from the last breach had no where else to go but through it.
Earth-1
While Barry, Harry and Cisco are on Earth-1, Caitlin and Jay are working on fixing the breach so they can come back. Unfortunately, a meta human who goes by the name Geomancer aka Adam Fell, is causing tremors throughout Central City in hopes of drawing out the Flash. Joe wants Jay to take Velocity 6 to get his speed back but Jay refuses to take the serum. Joe thinks that Jay owes it to Earth-1 to protect it in Barry’s absence since he is on Earth-2 protecting it. Jay tells Caitlin the reason why he doesn’t want to take Velocity 6 is he has taken it before in hopes of making him go faster. Alas, the serum only made him lose his speed and the reason why he is sick.
The CCPD gets wind of where Geomancer is and goes to confront him. Geomancer believes that the Flash had disappeared since he hasn’t stopped him yet but the Flash does arrive and temporarily stops him thanks to Velocity 7 but it wears out. This gives Geomance a change to put the squeeze on Jay but Joe starts shooting at him and Jay is safe but his pride is wounded.
As Caitlin helps Jay lick his wounds, she says she will move on to Velocity 8 as the pair now know they have 24 hours before they have to close the breach.
Earth-2
Barry and Cisco find Earth-2 amazing. When they go outside, they see and very different Central City that is a mix of retro (the cars) and modern (the monorail). Vancouver filming fun fact: Earth-2 STAR Labs, interior and exterior are Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre. When Barry and Cisco looked across the street to see a vast Central City, in reality what you see is our central Canada Post office.
Back inside STAR Labs, Barry and Cisco are geeking out over everything they see and taking pictures like tourists much to the dismay of Harry. Barry and Cisco are then surprised to see Henry Hewitt who on Earth-1 was the failed candidate to be the other half of Firestorm. This Hewitt is a very nice lab assistant of Harry.
Once in Harry’s lab, there is a news report about a curfew due to Zoom’s reign of terror. This curfew as set by Mayor Snart (as in Leonard). Cisco tries to use his Vibe glasses to find Zoom’s layer but it isn’t working due to Earth-2 having a different frequency than Earth-1. Another news report comes up and wwe see Earth-2 Barry Allen being interviewed. This Barry is all nerdy looking but still a CSI and tells the reporter that Detective West is on the case. Barry and Cisco are glad to know that Joe is still a detective in this case. Barry gets the idea to kidnap his doppleganger so he can be him to find information about Zoom. Earth-2 Barry is freaking out and seeing another him but geeks out over meeting Harry. Barry has to taser his counterpart so he can become home. It should be noted that Earth-2 Barry is wearing a wedding ring.
When Barry goes to the CCPD, it too is different down to the slogan in the lobby. Barry realizes that Captain Singh is actually a crook and spies Deadshot aka Floyd Lawton where that nickname is more of a joke than a compliment as Lawton is the worse shot of the police department and he also happens to be Detective Iris West’s partner. Barry is surprised that Iris is the cop and more surprised when she pulls him down a hallway to makeout. On Earth-2 Iris and Barry are married but unfortunately, Barry forgets to put on Earth-2’s wedding ring. While making out, Iris’ meta human detection app on her watch goes off in the presence of Barry but she just thinks the watch is malfunctioning.

Meanwhile, we see Killer Frost taking down some criminals who have robbed a bank. Killer Frost is working for Zoom and she uses her icicle powers to kill on thug and her ice kiss to kill another. Another thug is about to get Killer Frost when Deathstorm comes to the rescue. The two here are also a couple and quite the power couple too. Deathstorm alerts Killer Frost that two breachers have been detected so off they go to find them.
Iris and Barry go back home and it looks like their Earth-1 home. Iris decides to change in front of Barry down to her bra to which he looks away. Barry spies their wedding photos and Iris tells him that his mom called.

And this is the emotional part of the episode where I cried. Barry goes to the phone which looks like a rotary phone but has speed-dial buttons (Dad, Mom and Dad, Eddie, Bruce, Hal and Diana). Barry presses Mom and Dad. When Barry’s mom picks up, it takes a few seconds for Barry to speak. Nora wants to call Barry to thank her son for the anniversary tickets for her and his dad to Atlantis (home of Aquaman). Barry has tears streaming down his face as he is talking to his mom saying that he is glad that she liked the gift and deserved time away. The two bid farewell and Barry and Iris are off to Jitterbug, a club where Joe is the crooner there.
We see on Earth-2 that Joe doesn’t like Barry and calls him Bartholomew. It seems the feeling is mutual for the other Barry who calls Joe, Joseph. Apparently, Joe isn’t happy at Barry for forcing Iris to become a cop to help pay for his education instead of being a reported at the Central City Picture News. Iris says that she was just an intern getting people coffee and that she wanted to be a cop like her grandfather.
Back in Harry’s office, the more time that Barry is away, Harry grows more worried. Cisco wonders where his dopplganger is but Harry wants him to concentrate on finding Zoom.

Everyone at the club has their meta human app go off and we see Killer Frost and Deathstorm arrive looking for the breacher. Barry calls her Caitlin and she says she no longer goes by that name and is called Killer Frost. Deathstorm is about to throw a fireball at Iris, who tries to arrest them, but Joe pushes her out of the way and gets the brunt of it.
Barry then speeds away Killer Frost and Deathstorm where a battle ensues but it ends up being a draw as Barry is called back to Iris. Joe isn’t doing so well.
Back at Harry’s office, Barry wants to help Iris and Joe but Harry warned him not to get emotionally involved; their mission is to find Zoom. But Barry considers them family no matter what Earth and feels that Harry should understand.
At the hospital, Joe tells Iris that every song he sings his for her and then he dies.
At the CCPD, Iris and Lawton are preparing to confront Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Barry arrives with Cisco, who has developed a weapon that can stop the pair.
Despite her misgivings, Cisco is allowed to accompany Iris and Lawton.
At the warehouse, Cisco meets Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Cisco wonders if Martin Stein is in Ronnie and he says that he hasn’t let him out in years and has been silent for years too. Cisco can’t believe they are working with Zoom but someone emerges from the shadows correcting him. Killer Frost and Deathstorm work for him while he works for Zoom and this him is Cisco’s doppleganger. Earth-2 Cisco is known as Reverb and knew that he was going to come to Earth-2. Reverb offers to teach Cisco how to harness powers to rule Central City. Cisco refuses his counterparts Darth Vader-esque offer and calls the Flash to save them.
The Flash arrives and hides Iris. Meanwhile, Lawton tries to shoot at Reverb but fails miserably so he uses his powers to push him away. Cisco is amazed that he can potentially do that and Reverb says he can teach him.
Eventually, Iris uses Cisco’s gun to stop Killer Frost from attacking the Flash and she gets hit in the shoulder. Then Deathstorm and Reverb have the Flash cornered and are throwing fireballs and vibrations at him.
Killer Frost wants them to stop as Zoom wants a speedster unharmed but the two aren’t stopping. Zoom arrives and kills Deathstorm and Reverb and spares Killer Frost for being loyal.
Zoom then takes Barry away. When Barry wakes up, he is in a glass cage and sees a man in an iron mask across the way pounding on the glass and he sees Jesse telling her that he and her dad are here to rescue her. Zoom on the other hand tells him otherwise.
So looking forward to next week as we are still on Earth-2!
Great poost thank you
