Marvel’s Agent Carter Season 2 “The Atomic Job” Recap

I want to say how glad I am to have Lesley Boone back on TV. Boone plays Rose on Agent Carter but if you were a fan of NBC’s Ed then you know her as Molly Hudson, best friend to Julie Bowen’s Carol Vessey and friend to Tom Cavanagh’s bowling alley lawyer Ed Stevens. This week, we got to see Rose as just more than the SSR’s cover story secretary but an agent on par to Peggy in her own right.
But before we get to see Rose in action, we have to get to what led her to be out in the field.
Peggy gets woken up by Jason to show how the zero matter that was in part of Jane Scott’s body is attracted to him. In fact, the zero matter jumps out of the container and absorbed by Jason making fleetingly solid.
So the plan is to steal Jane Scott’s body out of a cold storage facility. Unfortunately, as Peggy and Jarvis are making their way through the vents, they are beaten to the punch by Whitney Frost and Chadwick. Whitney tells her husband that the zero matter was calling out to her and she absorbs all of it into her.
Whitney then tells Chadwick that she wants to build an atomic bomb. Jason tells Peggy and Jarvis that Whiney wants to create the atomic explosion experiment that Isodyne did that we saw in the zero matter film.
Jarvis realizes that Whitney will need get her atomic bombs at one of Hugh Jones’ Roxxon facilities since he is a Council member. Jarvis narrows down the Roxxon facility just outside of Los Angeles as it has the most complex security that requires Peggy to break into Jones’ office to retrieve a special key that will grant them access.

MARVEL’S AGENT CARTER – “The Atomic Job” – As Jarvis’ precision and quick-thinking skills are put to the ultimate test, Peggy must find a way to stop an atomic explosion that threatens to destroy all of California, on “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network. Peggy adds bangs to her hairstyle and breaks into the Jones’ office while his secretary is off to lunch. Jones comes out of his office and wonders who Peggy is. Peggy says her name is Wanda and she was sent to accounting to get a file. Jones is all swarmy and flirty with Peggy as he goes off to lunch. As Peggy is searching Jones’ office, he remembers meeting Peggy before as an SSR agent and goes back to his office to confront her. Peggy uses a temporary memory wipe device developed by Samberly on Jones so she can continue on searching. Jones leaves and goes a few times with Peggy each time using the memory wipe to the point where he gets knocked out. Peggy realizes the key is actually on Jones and has to search his body. Again, Jones wakes up several times during the search and again the memory wipe device is used. Finally, Peggy finds the key in the belt buckle and Jones has no clue how he got into his disheveled shape.
Meanwhile, Whitney goes to a former beau, Joseph Manfredi, a mob boss, to help them gain access to the atomic bombs. Manfredi agrees to help in exchange for Chadwick ensuring the newspaper people he knows will keep his name and his associates out of the papers.
Key in hand, Jarvis, Peggy, Jason and Sousa plan their mission. The main plan is for Sousa to remove the uranium out of the atomic bombs because of his steady hands but while practicing he dropped the rod. Peggy wonders if Sousa is sure that the SSR shouldn’t be involved. Sousa is sure as he thinks the Council has its hands in the SSR and isn’t sure who to trust. Peggy does know someone they can trust and it is Rose. Sousa isn’t so sure but Peggy says that Rose received the same training as her but he counters she has no field training. However, we see Rose kick some serious butt when an act starts to get fresh with her.
With Rose on board, they break into the lab to take some useful toys from Samberly. Samberly catches them and he convinces Sousa to let him join the mission.
At the Roxxon facility, Rose and Samberly pull up in a truck that is labeled Civil War Antiques. Inside are Sousa, Peggy and Jarvis. The men have no confidence that Rose and Samberly will help them get through the guards but Peggy has faith. Rose and Samberly do get past the guards by using a device that pulls the electricity from the fence to knock out the guards.
The team make it to the bowels of the facility but so is Whitney Frost. Samberly manages to unlock all the doors to the facility and the team determine where the atomic bombs are. Samberly’s motion detector senses one of Whitney’s men coming so Rose breaks off to take care of him and boy does she ever.
While that is going on, Jarvis enters the room with the atomic bombs and when Samberly goes to a panel to lock out Whitney, he accidentally locks in Jarvis. Another of Whitney’s men is detected nearby and Peggy goes to deal with him while Sousa talks Jarvis into what to do. Even though he is nervous, Jarvis does safely retrieve the uranium and leaves with Rose and Samberly while Sousa goes after Peggy.
Peggy then looks for Whitney and sees her arguing with Chadwick. A fight ensues between the two ladies and when Whitney goes to grab Peggy by the arm to use her power on her, we see pain on Peggy’s face. To escape Whitney, Peggy headbutts her but it didn’t hurt her as expected. Peggy falls through the fence and is clinging for her life. When Whitney goes to grab her again, Peggy falls and is impaled on some rebar.

Jarvis and Sousa take Peggy to the latter’s fiancee’s house (they got engaged earlier in the episode). Violet is a nurse and says Peggy should be in the hospital but she refuses to go. Violet manages to save Peggy but she sees that Sousa is in love with Peggy and confronts him on it.
Over at Whitney’s, she wants Chadwick’s help again but he refuses. Whitney gets angry at her husband and her fury gets him to comply. While Whitney is sleeping, Chadwick calls an emergency Council meeting.
Back at Stark’s Peggy is recouperatin and Jason visits her and while listening to their son, Jason starts to disappear.
I really enjoyed this episode and I think it is such a shame that the ratings for Agent Carter aren’t great that it would have been nice to get a season 3 to at least finish Peggy’s story in this era.
