Forgive the lack of recap of the last new episode but here’s what you need to know from that: Rosalind was inadvertently working for HYDRA, Malick has a mini monolith and wants to open up the portal to bring back to creature from the other side, which is apparently the reason why HYDRA was formed in the first place, HYDRA is creating InHumans and FitzSimmons kissed.

So now that we are are caught up….

The hour starts off with date night with Rosalind and Coulson. It seems that all is forgiven and as the two site down for burgers and discuss next moves, a shot is fired through Rosalind’s window hitting her neck and she bleeds out and dies in Coulson’s arm. Ward calls to taunt Coulson and a group of HYDRA soldiers go after him. Coulson puts up a good fight and escapes when Mack extracts him.

Back at the SHIELD base, Coulson is grieving over Rosalind and interviews the original SHIELD team to find Ward’s weakness. After talking to Daisy, Coulson seems to have found it. Wanting revenge against Ward, Coulson enlists Hunter and Bobbi on his mission and makes Mack acting director because what he needs to do is not by the books.

Ward has met with Malick where the latter tells the former to drop his closure with Coulson but Ward doesn’t want to. Malick tries to get Ward to see the bigger picture with the monolith but Ward is of one mind on his plans for Coulson.

Meanwhile, FitzSimmons show Banks what they’ve found about the “NASA” mission to the planet and go to a warehouse where they might find something. However, they are ambushed by the InHuman Giyera who kills Banks and his men.

FitzSimmons are brought to Malick and Ward but both are unwilling to help HYDRA. FitzSimmons are separated with Giyera torturing Simmons. Ward tells Fitz that it can all stop if he just help them with the portal. Both FitzSimmons hold their ground but when Ward decides to take over the torture, Fitz makes a decision to save the love of his life.

Part of Coulson’s plan involved tracking down Ward’s younger brother, Thomas, the one that he dumped in a well. Finding him in a jewelry store, Hunter and Coulson kidnap him and use him to be able to track Ward. Using Ward’s love for his brother against him, Coulson et al manage to get an exact location of Ward and HYDRA: it is the same castle that the team was at before when the rescued Simmons.

The decision that Fitz makes is that he has agreed to help HYDRA on the other side in exchange for them not harming Simmons. Simmons doesn’t want Fitz to go but he is steadfast in his resolve as he doesn’t want to live in a world where Simmons doesn’t exist.

Since FitzSimmons have been taken, Mack, as acting director, makes the decision to send Daisy and her small InHuman army composed of Joey and Lincoln to storm in to save their team members.

Before the portal is opened, Malick wants Ward to lead the team on the other side to bring back the creature. Ward refuses as the only thing he wants to do is kill Coulson. But after Malick makes a speecha about this being a big moment for HYDRA and he wants Ward to lead it, this convinces Ward to lead the mission.

As the portal is opened, I wished that FitzSimmons shared another kiss but alas no. HYDRA soldiers, Ward and Fitz enter the portal with Malick saying he will extract everyone in 12 hours.

Meanwhile, overhead, Bobbi tries to tell Coulson not to get his emotions to cloud his judgement. Even with HYDRA trying to shot the quinjet out of the air, Coulson does not heed Bobbi’s advice and jumps out of the plane and into the portal opening just before it closes.

On the other side, Ward, Fitz and company are in the midst of a sandstorm surveying the land. Coulson arrives and is rolling down a hill and hits his head on a rock and is knocked unconscious.

Next week is the mid-season finale so lets see what happens on the other side and if Fitz will bring Will back.
