Orphan Black Season 3 “Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate” Recap

Tonight’s Orphan Black was all about family and it was a very Alison-centric episode but we are going to save what happened to her till the end.

Sarah and Helena

Having escaped the Castor compound (where the Castor boys are absent tonight), the sestra’s are in a Mexican cantina.

Sarah is wondering where Benjamin (one of Mrs. S’s) people is. When Helena hears that Benjamin is connnected to S, she is out for blood. However, instead of Benjamin, it is S herself coming to bring Sarah and Helena home.

Helena is very pissed at seeing S and is ready to kill her with the fork from her meal but is stopped by the cantina owner. Helena promises to fight S after she finishes eating. During the meal, S begs Helena’ forgiveness for selling her out but said she did it for Kira and Sarah. Helena isn’t in a forgiving mood and when she is done eating is trying to engage S into a fight but S refuses to do so. S continues to not want to fight Helena even after she punches her twice in the face. When Helena punches S in the face for a third time, S does strike back but immediately apologies and envelops Helena in a hug telling her that she is part of their family. Helena seems to finally relent to S forgiveness.

After Sarah freshens up, she tells S that Paul was killed while S tells Sarah that Gracie has now joined their family and that Helena says that she is going to be the grandma to her baby. Sarah collapses from the emotional toll of her ordeal and is comforted by S.

Cosima and Alison

Delphine interrupts some sexy times between Cosima and Shay to get a urine sample for her ex to test the protein mutation.

Cosima doesn’t want to help Delphine so seeks Alison’s help in getting her urine sample instead.

Speaking of Alison, anything that could go wrong with her in this episode did.

But some quick fact. Donnie is still Alison’s monitor taking her vitals and menstrual flow down while Alison practices her school trustee speech. And did you know that Donnie’s real name is Donnie Chubbs and he took Alison’s last name when they married?

The reason why I bring this up is Alison’s mom Connie (Sheila McCarthy) keeps on calling Donnie Mr. Chubbs. Here is the first complication for Alison in the episode. Alison and Donnie thinks they’ve already bought “Bubbles” but Connie at first wants to read the purchase contract to then later telling Alison that she can’t sell her the store because Donnie’s name would be a co-owner. So Mrs. Hendrix doesn’t approve of Donnie and tells Alison so.

Second complication is that Donnie accidentally took the nominee school trustee signatures to the drug dealer Pouchy (the same one that cut Vic’s finger off in season 1) instead of the $30,000. The $30,000 is sitting at the table with Sarah Stubbs. So Jason goes back to the high school where the school trustee debates are happening to retrieve the money. However, Jason takes too long so Pouchy threatens to cut Donnie’s nose off if he doesn’t get the money in 30 minutes.

Because Alison was off dealing with her mother drama, Cosima has to play Alison. Cosima went to the high school to get her urine. First off Cosima has to pose for photo ops but because she doesn’t have her glasses, she can’t see and is bumping into people. Helping Cosima navigate Alison’s current world is Felix, who not surprisingly is Alison’s campaign manager. While Cosima is doing the photo-op, Alison has come back and has to quickly hide when she sees Cosima,

To add to this drama, Connie arrives to tell Alison that her father wasn’t her father but that she used sperm of better stock. Alison is too stunned to take this news in and asks Jason to keep her mom company. While Jason does this, he does get Connie to sell Bubbles to Alison and Donnie. Later, thinking Cosima is Alison kisses her but she doesn’t kiss back.

Alison does manage to get the money envelope and meets Pouchy’s niece in the parking lot. This is bad timing of course as the debates is about to beginning. Alison does hand off the money but the niece insists Alison stays to ensure the money is all there. Fortunately for Donnie, all is good and his nose is spared.

Back at the auditorium, it is Alison’s turn but she is MIA so Cosima has to stand in and is not doing such a great job. Thankfully a coughing fit allows Cosima to leave so Alison can come back to deliver a speech about family and as school trustee she will work to keep their family (the school district) together. The speech gets a standing O and even Alison’s mom is going to vote for her.

Later in the girl’s bathroom, Cosima tells Alison that Jason kissed her. Alison also doesn’t give Cosima her urine as she wants to know what is going on. Cosima tells Alison about Delphine’s visit but their conversation is cut short when Connie comes in. Hearing Connie say that Alison will come to her senses and leave Donnie prompts her to introduce Cosima to her mom. Alison calls Cosima her clone but Connie doesn’t believe it and says that the clinic must have given a bit of the same sample to Cosima’s mom.

Cosima was already long gone and returned to Shay’s and is taking a bath. Cosima tells Shay of her illness and that is when we notice that she is experiencing vaginal bleeding.

Rachel

Scott is quite the cunning game in this episode and gotten over his fear of Rachel. When Rachel goes to getting testing done from Delphine, she notices that Scott has one of her paintings. Scott shows her the Island of Dr. Moreau book and there is recognition there. Rachel then asks Scott about the board game that she wants to learn more about. Scott agrees to teach her. When Scott goes to the room, he really is teaching her this game as to make the visit more legit. Scott shows a photo copy page of the book with symbols on it. Rachel starts to decode it but will only tell Sarah what it means.

Next week, it looks like Donnie and Alison will have a new roommate and will Alison leave Donnie for Jason? It just might be based on the promos for next week.

  1. My favorite episode so far this season. So many great scenes – almost all of them – but if I had to pick one favorite it would be when Alison told her mother she was a clone. My jaw literally dropped. I was trying to remember where I knew the actress playing Connie from and it finally came to me, Little Mosque on the Prairie.
