Words cannot honestly describe watching John Barrowman at a comic con panel (scroll down at the end of this article for video highlights). The man is hilarious and obviously loves his fans as much as they adore him. One thing that I wasn’t quite expecting was that the panel would also feature a lot of singing, dancing and fart jokes. One particular fart joke had to do with something Stephen Amell shared at his panel the day before about a funny story about working with John Barrowman: This is Mr. Barrowman’s side of the tale and it had Ballroom A in stitches:

Here are high points of his Fan Expo Vancouver 2015 panel:

  • The first question of the day ended up John giving advice and words of wisdom to a young fan that recently came out to his family. He added that he never sought to be put on a pedestal for the LGBQT community but is happy to be. His piece of advice “Take ownership of your coming out. You control your destiny.”
  • “The Making of Me” is the project that he has done that he would like people to see.
  • While he loves playing Malcolm Merlyn, Captain Jack is his favourite character has it changed his life.
  • He loved Doctor Who has a boy growing up in Scotland and squealed like a little boy inside when he got to meet Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane Smith) in the elevator of Who Tower (the residence where Doctor Who cast and crew stay). John shared that when Ms. Sladen passed away, the Torchwood cast and crew held a moment of silence.

John says he loves doing conventions and meeting his fans and always gracious to them is because it is all due to them he has the life he has. To show is graciousness, he gave fans hugs, recorded a wake up call and even sang the “All I Ask of You” duet from Phantom of the Opera with a fan.

  • John Barrowman and the Rocketeer

Another fan dressed as the Rocketteer asked him to fix his jet back with some gum (if you’ve seen the movie then you will get the reference).

  • Patricia, Arrow’s archery consultant, asked John to share his archery tips.
  • When asked if he will be appearing on The Flash or the Arrow/The Flash spinoff, John just pranced around the stage but did say that how season 3 of Arrow ends is going to be awesome and will be opening his window waiting to hear people’s jaw’s to drop.

  1. This is great! Thank you so much. I wasn’t aware of him at all until Torchwood – then I was hooked.
