Fan Expo Vancouver 2016: The Flash Panel with Candice Patton and Tom Cavanagh
At their Fan Expo Vancouver 2016 panel, Candice Patton and Tom Cavanagh discussed all things The Flash and shared some behind the scenes stories.
One such story is the Flash himself, Grant Gustin, is quite the prankster on set and loves to run into things and pretend that he is really hurt. A lot of time Patton falls for it and is greatly concern for Gustin but then gets all pissed when she realizes that he was only joking.
Cavanagh was asked which version of Harrison Wells that he has enjoyed playing and he responded that he loves playing all of them. In fact, audiences didn’t see that several Wells audition scenes were left on the cutting room floor. As for the current Wells, HR Wells, this version is meant to added comedy to the show whereas the previous two Wells we’ve seen more more antagonistic. But Cavanagh did defend Harry saying that his sole singular focus was to protect his daughter from Zoom (and later from her developing powers). This focus may have come across as antagonistic but Harry’s intentions come from a good place. Tom relished playing that and hopes to have Violett Beane who played his daughter Jesse Quick come back to the show.
Cavanagh also teased that HR might get a bit flirty with Iris right in front of Barry and Joe and we can expect this scene to play out comically.
As for Iris, Patton told the Vancouver audience how she really enjoyed playing the “bad-ass gun-wielding Iris” from Earth-2 and relished the opportunity of playing a range of emotions that she got to do in season 2.
Teasing what fans can expect is more of Iris working at Central City Picture News and action on a new unseen set that Patton calls one of new favourites to shoot on.
When asked about the upcoming musical cross-over with Supergirl, both Patton and Cavanagh have not seen a script. However, Tom called the set “a musical episode that is not being filmed” and added that Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon/Vibe, is the “Lin-Manuel Miranda” of The Flash cast.
Over at Tom Felton’s Fan Expo Vancouver Panel, he mentioned that he is looking forward to where The Flash writers take Julian as he has no clue. Felton shared that he and Gustin go off script a lot and calls his character a bit of a “knob”.
We will update this post once we upload videos from both panels.
