Jeremy Jordan is the MVP of this episode and great casting in getting Henry Czerny to play his dad. Also, Supergirl should make Jenna Dewan-Tatum a series regular already!

Work-life Balance

In a meeting with Cat, we learn that Lucy isn’t close with Lois. As their conversation continues, we realize that Cat asked Lucy to meet to offer her a job as her general council and would be working on the same floor as James. When Lucy tells James, Kara and Winn about this, we can see that James isn’t that thrilled. When Lucy asks James if he is cool that they work together, he simply says that she should take the job. It wasn’t the answer Lucy was looking for and James doesn’t really help his cause by still giving vague answers.

When Cat asks Kara to grag Lucy’s offer package from HR, Kara doesn’t seemed to thrilled at the prospect of Lucy coming to work at CatCo. Cat deduces that James doesn’t want Lucy working at CatCo because of Kara, which she of course denies.

But all is well as Lucy’s office isn’t on the same floor and James admits that he was hesitant only because while Lucy’s career is flourishing, he is unhappy at his job and realizes he should have never left journalism.

What is Maxwell Lord up to?

The Martian Manhunter is helping Supergirl refine her flying technique while she tries to encourage J’onn to come out and embrace who he is. J’onn rather remain as Hank Henshaw. Alex even tries to convince J’onn to be who he is is but again he rather be Hank as he feels that no one will accept who he is and was hunted for 50 years because of it.

Alex and Hank work together to see what Lord is up to. Alex arranges a private meeting with Lord and let’s him wine and dine her while Hank infiltrates Lord’s lab to see what is in room 52. During this dinner date, Lord admits that the aliens took nothing after Alex confides that the DEO have a working relationship with Supergirl.

But a guard walks in on Hank and he is forced to use his mind wipe abilities to get away. Hank feels guilty for doing so but won’t tell Alex what really happened but wonder why the woman is being injected with hydrochloric acid. The episode opens with Winslow Shott Senior (Henry Czerny) breaking out of prison by killing guards with a killer yo-yo. The FBI visit Winn at CatCo and Agent Chase (Emma Caulfield) asks if he had any contact with his Dad. Winn says that he hasn’t had contact with dad since he got put away to prison.

Winn confides into Kara that his dad’s boss, Chester Dunholz stole his toy ideas and got rich. As revenge, he sent a teddy bear with a bomb in it intended for Dunholz but killed his assistant and 5 others. The truth is that the Toyman has been in contact and Winn shows Kara a doll with a message to meet at a certain place.

Winn does tell the FBI and Chase the truth and Winn goes to meet his dad at an empty midway. The Toyman wants them to be together and how they are a like but Winn rejects his dad and says they are nothing alike. The FBI enter the midway and open fire but alas the Toyman isn’t there and Winn was just talking to a projection. The midway starts to fill with poisonous gas but Supergirl arrives and sucks in the gas and flies away to blow it to safety.

Winn doesn’t want Kara involved anymore but changes his mind when Kara speaks on how she really values and needs their friendship

Winn and Kara search for clues and find one in the doll. This leads Supergirl to Slingshot Factory, the Toyman’s old warehouse. The Toyman is there but traps Supergirl in a block of quick sand while a child in a suitcase screams for help. Supergirl breaks free but finds out the child is a Supergirl doll.

At Kara’s apartment, Winn and Kara have a heart to heart conversation about overcoming the tragedies that happened to them for the better after Winn fears that he too will have a psychotic break. Kara starts to hold Winn’s hand that he uses as an opportunity to kiss her but she pulls away. Winn apologies and leaves but gets kidnapped by his dad.

The Toyman wants Winn to use a toy gun to kill Chester Dunholz at the National City Toy Con 2016. If Winn doesn’t then he will set off 10 bombs in 10 toys. Either way, the Toyman will get his wish of father-son together whether on the run, in prison or elsewhere. We see Winn at the Toy Con and makes to shoot him but the FBI is there and opens fire on Winn but Supergirl blocks all the bullets while Winn shoots his gun in the air. We see the Toyman in the basement set off the bombs but Supergirl releases the sprinklers and freezes that water to offer blast protection.

In the aftermath, Winn decides to not bottle his feelings anymore and admits to Kara that he is in love with her. Kara wants to remain in the friends zone but Winn doesn’t. It looks like we are down one Superfriend.

Danvers Sisters Debrief

At TV night at Kara’s, Kara tells Alex about her situation with Winn. Alex then tells Kara about her investigation into Maxwell Lord. Kara warns her to be careful bu Alex says that Maxwell Lord can’t pull one on her. Of course we know that will come and bite her because we see that Lord has planted a camera in Alex’s purse and is spying on the sisters eating pizza, revealing to Lord Supergirl’s secret identity.

I find Lord to be the Lex Luthor of this show and his hatred of Supergirl is like Luthor’s hatred of Superman in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. We will see what Lord will do with the information he finds out in this episode.
