I’ve had a few days to digest what happened on the season 2 finale of SHIELD and it was definitely one where I yelled and gasped at the TV, especially at the cliffhanger.

This recap will only capture at a high level the action so let’s break it down.

You Just Can’t Keep Bobbi Down

Ward and Agent 33 have kidnapped Bobbi so she can confess that she was the one that turned Agent 33 in to HYDRA. Agent 33 needs to so she can have some closure. Ward tortures Bobbi by sticking needles underneath in finger nails in one hand. However, Bobbi does get loose, yanks the needles out and starts to pu a beat down to Ward AND Agent 33. Eventually, thought Ward takes down Bobbi and breaks her knee cap. Tied up once again, Ward has set a trap to Hunter, who he knows will rescue Bobbi. The first person that opens the door to the room she is in will get a bullet in the head.

Hunter is indeed going after Bobbi after seeing footage of Agent 33 as May lead her away. May joins the fight so she can lay another beat down to Ward. When Hunter and May arrive at the facility where Ward et al are, Ward takes off from Agent 33 to confront May. May creates a decoy by pretending to radio location where she will be. Unfortunately for Agent 33 she puts on her May face and Ward, thinking it is our favourite SHIELD agents shoots in several times in the gut. When “May” calls Ward baby is when he realizes his mistake and Agent 33 dies in his arms. Hunter meanwhile does come to Bobbi’s rescue and just as he is opens the door, Bobbi takes the bullet for him. Bobbi is rushed back to SHIELD HQ and she will be okay. Bobbi tells Lance that she can no longer do this. What this is is unknown as either she is quitting SHIELD or doesn’t want to dance around her feelings for Hunter anymore. I am thinking the latter. If it was the former then we would have our SHIELD spin-off but that is no longer happening.

SHIELD versus the Inhumans

Jiaying is still playing up that SHIELD has attached the Inhumans and even gets Gordon to hijack a quinjet to attack the building that housed Gonzales’ petrified body. Skye promises her mom that she didn’t know this chaos was going to happen and really tries to make peace but when May (before she leaves on her mission with Hunter) wants to take down her mom, the two ladies fight. End result is Skye uses her powers to Force push May away.

We learn that Jiaying is able to heal quickly and stay young by sucking the life force out of people. A newly healed Jiaying speak to Raina who has foreseen the death and destruction that the Inhuman leader will bring. To silence her, Jiaying kills Raina that Skye witnesses. Jiaying tries to explain herself but Skye refuses to listen. To leads to Jiaying having to make her daughter her prisoner.

Meanwhile, at SHIELD HQ, Coulson is trying to question Cal and we learn the concoction he took is a interesting mixture of steroids. At some point Cal starts to have a heart attack or seizure where Simmons injects him with adrenaline. This causes Cal to look like Mr. Burns’ baseball team from The Simpsons and also makes him super strong. Coulson is able to calm Cal down eventually by appealing to him with Skye/Daisy. Cal tells Coulson that Jiaying changed after he pieced her back together. Gone was the kind-hearted woman but one filled with darkness and revenge.

On the aircraft carrier, Weaver is in charge but under her watch, the Inhumans get onto the carrier to get the Kree stone. Skye is a prisoner of her mom’s and has cuffs on that inhibit her powers. Mack, who was a out to leave, gets roped back into action and with an axe as his ally, defends himself against the Inhumans. First order of business for Mack is to set Skye free so she can hack into the carrier’s system to stop a beacon that is calling all SHIELD quinjets to come. Jiaying plans on using the Terrigen crystals to kill every SHIELD agent.

Coulson, Cal and Fitz are joining the mission in one quinjet. Just before Fitz leaves for this mission, Simmons decides that she wants to talk about Fitz confession from last season. The gist is that the situation with Bobbi and Hunter made her realize that she has feelings for Fitz. When this happened I said heck yes. I’ve been shipping FitzSimmons since episode 1 of season 1.

Back on the carrier, Skye manages to get a signal out warning of a trap so Coulson sends the other SHIELD agents away.

Skye then confronts her mom about her plans and uses her powers to push the quinjet that contains the Terrigen crystal into the ocean. Jiaying then has no choice to kill her daughter by sucking the life out of her. Skye uses her quake powers to break free and is ready to kill her mom when Cal comes on the scene and kills Jiaying.

Meanwhile, May (back from her mission with Hunter) is joined by Lincoln to fight an Inhuman that can create clones of herself. They win this fight by taking out the creator. Something tells me that Lincoln will be around for season 3.

In the hold that contains more Terrigen crystals, Fitz has managed to surround the room with dampers to keep Gordon from teleporting away. Mack, Coulson and Fitz fight Gordon and eventually it is Fitz who impales the teleporter but not before Gordon drops a Terrigen crystal that Coulson catches before it hits the ground. As Coulson’s arm starts to petrify, Mack uses his axe to chop off Coulson’s arm, who ends up being okay.

As the dust settles, Skye and her father reconcile – a far cry from her calling him a monster. Cal has undergone the TAHITI program and has no memories of what has happened and who Skye is. Cal is now a vet that goes by Dr. Winslow. Coulson then puts Skye in charge of a secret program about people with abilities. I am assuming that Lincoln is part of this and also the woman that can copy herself.

May has asked for time off and it seems to involve her ex Andrew and some sexy times. And Ward is the new head of HYDRA.

Mack has stayed on with SHIELD and is in charge of all the alien artifacts that includes the Kree stone.

Speaking of that, FitzSimmons are examining it when Fitz awkwardly asks Simmons out for dinner, which she accepts. Fitz leaves to research dining options. Simmons notices the latch to container where the stone if kept is undone. Simmons goes to close it but the stone turns to liquid, gets out and grabs Simmons before becoming solid again.

That moment truly shocked me. I hope Simmons is okay and that when she does return, she isn’t a different person. I am looking forward to seeing what will happen.
