So this week the Oscar nominations came out and here is a link to EW.com’s story on the nominations.

Well, leading the pack is The King’s Speech with 12 nominations.
Of the 10 Best Picture nominees this year, I’ve only seen three: The King’s Speech, Toy Story 3 and Inception.
Now I am not a movie critic or seen a lot of movies in 2010 to say what got snubbed but one thing that did surprise me was that Tangled didn’t get nominated for Best Animated Feature and Christopher Nolan was overlooked as Best Director. I was also surprised that Tron Legacy didn’t get a Visual Effects nomination especially with what that movie did for Jeff Bridges.
Nominations I was pleased for are the one’s that The King’s Speech got, in particular Colin Firth. Also, yay for Canada and getting a Foreign Language film nod for Incendies and Barney’s Version get a nom for Best Make-Up. And the co-director of How To Train Your Drago is Canadian.
I was also very happy to see Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part One get some Oscar love with two nominations for Best Art Direction and Visual Effects.
Now I am not going to give any predictions here. However, if I were to give one prediction because it is a sure lock is that Toy Story 3 is going to win Best Animated Film. If it doesn’t win I would truly be shocked.
If you are a follower of my blogs over the last few years you would know that I have an annual Oscar bet with my younger brother. We’ve been doing this since Lord of the Rings: Return of the King won Best Picture, the year I got 23 out of 24 right. Since then, I think it goes back and forth as to who wins.
Last year, my brother won so I don’t want to give him any hints a to how I am predicting.
You will see our picks when I blog the Oscars on Februrary 27.
