It is the semi-finals and also Pâtisserie Week. If you asked me at Cake Week who was going to be in the final four, I would have said Camila, Heather, Kathy and Loïc. And I would have said Candice as the dark hors. Never in my wildest predictions would I have seen Andrew being in the final four but he peaked at the right time. Will he be able to sustain the momentum and make it to the finale and perhaps win it all? We shall see. Let us dive into Pâtisserie Week.

Signature Bake

The Bake: 10 x Religieuse

The Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes

What I would bake: I feel like they’ve done this before but maybe I am confusing this with the British version of this show. I think every time the show does a choux bake, I think I always choose to go peppermint cream and I would make them look like Santa Clause with gifts. I would add a red craquelin too.

What the contestants baked and judges thoughts:

I am loving the design and flavours of Candice’s Religieuse. Camila’s too sounds great.

• Andrew: Doggone Religieuse made with peanut butter and cream cheese mouse and blueberry jelly bones. Bruno liked the details and said it was filled properly. Both loved the flavour combinations. 
• Camila: Ribbiting Religieuses made with white chocolate and strawberry filling and marzipan tongues. Kyla called it cuteness overload and admired the craquelin. Bruno didn’t like she sliced the choux but liked the strawberry jam.
• Candice: Welsh Rabbit Religieuses made with mushroom and cheese filling, parmesan craquelin and chives. Bruno said the choux could have used more baking. Kyal liked the Welsh Rabbit flavour.
• Loïc: Fun Guy Fungi made with sea buckthorn berry and mascarpone filling and white chocolate ganache. Bruno liked it technically and but didn’t like the filling.

Technical Bake

The Bake: Chaja cake

The Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes

How I would have fared: This cake sounds amazing. I might try to make this once I see the recipe online. I think technically I can handle each component so I think I might do okay with this. I don’t think I will get number 1 but I don’t think I will be last.

Showstopper

The Bake: Entremet display that has two different types of entremets to total 24 and in shape they like.

The Time: 4 hours

What I would bake: After blogging 7 seasons of this show, I am not sure what I would do as I think I am getting repetitive in my baking ideas. 

What the contestants baked and judges thoughts:  

I like the theme of Candice’s entremets and I do like the idea of an ice wine gelee. Camila’s too sounds interesting especially the soursop.

• Andrew: Beach Day Entremets made with tequila cake, earl grey cake, lemon mousse and lime mousse. Both noted that the mirror glaze wasn’t great. Bruno liked the tequila one but could have been better looking. Bruno said the earl grey one lacked flavour.
• Camila: Bird’s Nest Entremets made with soursop mousse, coffee mousse, mango curd and chocolate ganache. Kyla liked her interpretation of a entremet and she loved the soursop, mango and espresso. Bruno said he could eat three of these in a row.
• Candice: Wine “n” Dine Entremets made with apricot mousse, raspberry mousse, ice wine gelee and baco noir gelee. Kyla said some were well glazed while others were not. Bruno liked the ice wine entremet. Kyla said the other one, the mousse wasn’t has set. Bruno said she was close on it being said but still like the flavour.
• Loïc: Critter-ful Entremets made with strawberry mousse, hibiscus gelee, lemon mousse and nasturtium gelee. Kyla admired the presentation and liked the bee entremet but didn’t like the nasturitium gelee. Bruno liked the flavour of the bee one too and he liked the ladybug.

In danger of going home: Andrew and Candice

Quick Thoughts: Sad that superfan Andrew went home so close to the finale. But I think he peaked too late. Andrew’s downfall was his performance in technicals and he didn’t perform well this week in the showstopper. Now we have our final three: Camila, Loïc and Candice. I think it might be Camila who could win but Loïc too has a chance. I don’t think Candice has a chance. Candice can only win if the other two have an epic fail.
