So this morning I watched the Oscar nominations and I am not too sure what I think about them. My initial reaction was there were some surprises both good and bad.

Let’s start with the good. I am pleased that Melissa McCarthy got nominated for her supporting turn in Bridesmaids and that Kristin Wiig got nominated for the screenplay. I have not seen the movie but will. I am happy because it is nice to see TV folks meet with some film success. I am pleased that Canada got nominated for Best Foreign Language film for Monsieur Lazhar.

I also loved that Jane Eyre got nominated for Best Costume.

I am disappointed that Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 didn’t get more Oscar love and that the Adventures of Tintin didn’t get a nomination for Best Animated Film. I am not surprised that Cars 2 didn’t get nominated.

I am surprised to see that only two songs got nominated for Best Original Song: Man or Muppet from the Muppets and a song from RIO called Real in Rio.

The Best Picture nominees are: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life and War Horse. Of the 9 Best Picture nominees, I have seen 4 of them. And actually it is not out the realm of possibility that I will see all of them.

Anyways, tune in on February 26, 2012 as I will live blog the Oscars and you get to see my Oscar predictions.
