Take a look at the image to the left. It’s The Tudors’ Henry Cavill in the Superman suit. My first impression: Damn, he looks hot and good in it.

I only wished we got to see Smallville’s very hot and sexy Tom Welling in the full suit.

Anyways, after reading about the Man of Steel, which is set to open on June 14, 2013, there are many things I hope to see happen in the latest Superman film.

Let’s have more action that was lacking in Superman Returns. No campy storytelling that was in the last two Christopher Reeve Superman films. Have the film be an origin story that matches or exceeds Smallville’s 10-year origin journey of Clark becoming Superman and last but not least more romance with Lois Lane and I don’t want to see Lana Lang at all in this movie.

I have to say the one thing that I was extremely disappointed in Superman Returns was the lack of romance between Superman/Clark Kent (Brandon Routh) and Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth).

The Lois and Clark/Superman romance is the main attraction to Superman for me. Hey, I am a romantic and frankly my favourite part of Superman II was when Lois (Margot Kidder) found out Clark (Christopher Reeve) was Superman and they consummated their love for each other in the Fortress of Solitude. Alas, I hated that in the end of that movie Clark erased Lois’ memories of their time together and of her knowledge of his secret. In Superman Returns, we see the result of their encounter in the form of Lois’ son but we don’t know this till near the end. The only romantic scene we get of Lois and Superman was on the roof of the Daily Planet and that was fairly early on in the film.

When Lois and Clark the New Adventures of Superman came on TV in the 90s, I was excited to finally see Lois and Clark become a romantic couple but looking back on the series, I found that most episodes veered into campy category and while Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain had chemistry, when Lois and Clark did eventually come together, I felt that their lovey-doviness was a bit vomit-inducing.

However, we have Smallville. Because I love Lois and Clark, I think that was the main reason why I love Smallville (especially in its 10th and final season). I finally get to see Lois and Clark be a very romantic and passionate couple with each other that looked natural (mostly due to the incredible chemistry that Erica Durance and Tom Welling shared). But that show often did a dis-service to them as the show spent 8 years of Clark pining after first love Lana Lang and we only got two seasons of Clark and Lois.  I think that is the reason why I started reading a lot of Smallville fan fiction that depicts Lois and Clark getting together much sooner, which is what I had wished for when Lois first came on the show in Season 4.

One of the things that I loved what Smallville and Lois & Clark did was having Lois know Clark’s secret of also being Superman. In both shows, especially Smallville, Lois knowing made Clark stronger and helped him become the hero he was always meant to be. Without Lois, Clark is nothing (as noted in season 9 of Smallville).

So with Man of Steel, I guess we shouldn’t expect Lois, (as played by Amy Adams) to know Clark’s secret but I do hope that she and Henry Cavill have some chemistry that at least matches Erica Durance’s and Tom Welling’s.

Basically, I want there to be some romance between Lois and Clark or heck Lois and Superman. That is really the only thing I want out of the Man of Steel.
